David J. Herman, MD, FACP, was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981, Dr. Herman earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1985. He completed an internal medicine residency in 1988 at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois and his infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Minnesota in 1991.
Dr. Herman was board certified in internal medicine in 1988 and in infectious diseases in 1990. He earned recertification in infectious diseases in 2000 and again in 2010. He has been in the private practice of infectious diseases since 1991.
New York Magazine named Dr. Herman to their list of The Best Doctors in the New York Metropolitan Area in 2000 and 2003. New Jersey Monthly magazine named him to their list of the Best Doctors in New Jersey in 2003 and annually from 2007 - 2011. Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd., included Dr. Herman in their list of Top Doctors in the New York Metro …Area annually since 1999.
Dr. Herman serves as the Chief of Infectious Diseases and Hospital Epidemiologist at the University Medical Center at Princeton. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he received the volunteer faculty-teaching award in 1996. He is an attending physician at the University Medical Center at Princeton, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, St. Peter’s University Hospital, and Somerset Medical Center.
The American College of Physicians has advanced Dr. Herman to fellowship. Dr. Herman is a member of both the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Infectious Diseases Society of New Jersey. The American Medical Association has awarded him the Physician's Recognition Award for Continuing Medical Education with a special commendation for self-directed learning effective from 2006-2012. Dr. Herman has served as a lecturer on various infectious diseases topics including Lyme disease and HIV/AIDS at hospital grand rounds and to various community groups.
