Dr. David Lawrence Higgins, MD

I have been to Dr Higgins 3 times--one knee and 2 shoulders. Not only is he an excellent surgeon, but he is also warm and compassionate. He specializes in sports injuries and works with the Olympic teams. His rehab staff is on site so they can ask him if there are any questions about your recovery. Don't hesitate--he knows what he is doing and is honest with you.

I wish I had done my own online research on this guy before surgery. Don't be fooled by all the photographs in his office of olympic teams and other sports figures. I started out with a minor rotator cuff tear. I had several opinions and decided to go with Higgins because he promised a shorter recovery time. What a mistake! He botched the surgery then did a manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) to try and fix the problem and tore my bicep tendon. I had to go to one of the other surgeons to fix the damage. I'll never be the same. To get out of pain I had to have the bicep tendon severed and reattached to the arm with a titanium bolt. He did two separate procedures and never once took an X-ray or MRI. The surgeon that fixed me said that Higgins should never have done what he did in my labrum. I've been told by the medical malpractice attorneys that he is protected in Montgomery county and that he would not be practicing if he resided in another jurisdiction. He is a good… salesman in the beginning, but after the surgery you have to fight to get an appointment with him. I'm in far worse shape than when I first sought Higgins' help. I've been told that the damage is irreparable. Do yourself a favor and find another surgeon.

Dr. Higgins and Kristine made me feel very comfortable with all my visits and I had a great surgery. They were ALWAYS available to answer my questions - even when I called him on a Sunday afternoon! The office staff is professional and they get the job done--who says they have to baby everyone who comes in there? They are just there to get you in so you can be seen asap.

This practice tells you that they will write off what your insurance does not cover if you are out of network. WRONG!The recovery time this doctor tells you is way off given a false impression as to how long you might be out of work etc. Their PT is like fast food instead of a 5 star experience.

I will never go to another ortho again, he was by far the best, and I have been to many over my 15 year career. Loved his manner, and he was very knowledgable and was correct about all aspects of my injury. He also was right on with his follow up and physical therapy was very advanced. I was riding a bike the DAY after surgery without pain. and without being drugged up
