Dr. David Alan Hirsch, MD

Dr. Hirsch has been seeing my daughter for several years. She and I both trust him completely! He has gone out of his way to be supportive and helpful to our family, and he openly discusses with us any concerns or ideas that he has for my daughter’s treatment. She always looks forward to seeing him!

David Hirsch is a phenomenal doctor; truly sincere and empathetic. I am lucky to be under his care.

Dr. Hirsch is an exceptional physician. I am also a physician so I was looking for someone whom I could trust, someone who was smart, honest and someone with whom my child would bond. He is all of these things and more. I have recommended him to others and his results are stellar. He works hard and is diligent. There are few others who can equal him in knowledge or competence.

You will not find a better child/young adult psychiatrist in the Chicago area. He is caring, knowledgeable and extremely bright. He was referred for my son by another outstanding doctor. It is nice to have a psychiatrist that takes care of both medicine and therapy.

Making the decision to seek a psychiatric evaluation for my child (8 yrs) was one of the most difficult decisions I have made in my life. She was struggling in several areas and I knew it was the right thing to do, but I felt (understandably) protective. I made appointments with two Child/Adolescent Psych Docs, but was immediately impressed by Dr. Hirsch. He was extremely attentive to the specific needs of my child as well as systematic in his approach to the broader settings in which she interacts (family, school). He always explains (and re-explains) the medication he has prescribed, and on two occasions when we needed emergency help outside of a standard appointment he returned our calls immediately. I should also note that our daughter enjoys seeing him, loves the extras in his office (sand, bean bag, standard and unique toys and games, etc.) She told us after 6 or 8 weeks that she felt like he "was really helping." Thus we have (gently) transferred her into his care for the… supportive counseling she was already receiving, giving her a weekly 45 minute appt with him. He has built a rapport with her that afforded him the insight to tweak her medication, and they have developed a therapeutic relationship that has strengthened her in ways that medication could never accomplish on its own. Exactly what psychiatrists are supposed to do.I honestly couldn't be more pleased.

He caused severe harm to my child when prescribing drug for her. Opinions of 5 other psychiatrist is the drug he prescribed was 1. inappropriate for her condition 2, so heavily sedating that she could not function (inappropriate for the already depressed state she was in.His judgment has been questioned by a number of other psychiatrist and I strongly caution anyone seeking help from this "doctor".
