Dr. David A Johns

I went in as a fearful patient for chip repair and crown placement on a root canal tooth. At the time of treatment I was prescribed Valium for my anxiety and the fact I do not numb with the numbing agents. (It did not work) Moments into the drilling Dr. Johns huffed and puffed and then exclaimed he had to go to plan B. What was plan B? He had to extract my tooth! The whole reason I went in was to avoid that. I did not want that. I exclaimed I wasn't even numb and didn't want to lose the tooth. I was told I really had no choice at that point. He then stuck me with a needle in which I groaned. He says "oh you really weren't numb" He then starts to yank and pull and shove and yank and pull and my head is being twisted in all directions. He is then shaking he is using so much force in one direction and I feel like my jaw is going to break. I hold the opposite side with my hand and yell, you are going to break my JAW! He then tells his tech to support me and she holds me… down by my chin! I feel everything! He then starts to cut! This was a brutal surgical extraction. I have always been put under general for extractions and would NEVER have consented to being awake. When finally done he places a stitch and then packs what I believed to be gauze in the wound. It was not gauze it was an unauthorized bone graft. This bone graft was NOT covered by insurance and caused a major PAINFUL infection. Dr. Johns refused to prescribe anything at all for pain after my appointment. He also refused to prescribe anything for pain when I presented with a raging infection caused by the bone graft. The antibiotic he prescribed over the phone (refused to come into the office to see me) did not work and I had to seek treatment from another dentist for a second antibiotic and pain medication because clearly Dr. Johns had no interest in follow up care as I had tried multiple attempts to reach out. Weeks after treatment and follow up from the second dentist when the second antibiotic began to work as well as the salt water rinses the bone graft rinsed away. However I was still billed $420 for the bone graft I did not authorize, that caused a painful infection, and that ultimately rinsed away and is not in place. I contested this bill with Dr. Johns office and gave supporting evidence as they requested, instead of responding to me they went behind our backs and sent us to a collection agency. I believe this to be a very shady practice.
