Dr. David Kalkstein, MD

I feel like Dr. Kalkstein is the only Dr. who actually listened to me. He's helped me immensely with my anxiety and depression. So glad I found him!

Dr. Kalkstein really listens to his patients and he helped me after so many years of being misdiagnosed. So happy that I finally found a doctor that helped!!!

My experience with Dr. Kalkstein was excellent. In 2010 I had been suffering from extreme depression for many years. Dr Kalkstein helped me by correctly diagnosing my depression and treated me for the PTSD. He also referred me to a therapist in his practice to help me with my issue. Dr Kalkstein also was very kind and professional. He listened to my issues even though these issues had started some 30+ years ago. Fast forward to now since he has moved and I now see another psychiatrist in my area I was in need of records from my time spent at his practice. Dr Kalkstein took the time to contact me personally and help me retrieve these records. Most Doctors wouldn’t even take the time to even return a call personally nor help getting the information needed. But Dr Kalkstein did! Thank you so very much Dr Kalkstein. I find that the poor ratings on here are from people who don’t know a good doctor when you find one.

Dr Kalkstein has been my psychiatrist for eight years. He has successfully treated my Bipolar better than any psychiatrist that has worked with me since my diagnosis 23 years ago. He is incredibly knowledgeable about psyche meds. I had a bout of severe anxiety but because he knew that I was in recovery, he would not prescribe any controlled substances for which I am so grateful. I have had many psychiatrist since being diagnosed Bipolar in 1995 but Dr Kalkstein is the best. My depressions are severe and can last for months. We had to work with many different medicines before we found the right ones. He is very compassionate too. I think that it is not fair to judge a psychiatrist on the first visit. Some people expect therapy/counseling from a psychiatrist but this is not their role. I have a therapist that I see weekly and Dr Kalkstein manages the meds. I moved three hour away from his practice and for two years I saw another psychiatrist and two psyche nurses. None could get me… out of my depression- two years! I finally drove the three hours to see Dr Kalkstein and he tweaked my meds and I was out of my depression in a month. I will be forever grateful to him. He knows his medication like no other psychiatrist. I drive three hours to see him each month and it is worth it. I personally know two patients that followed him to Dover and drive an hour to see him. I’m also in DBT therapy and I highly recommend it to all who suffer from depression.

I adored Dr Kalkstein. He was like a father to me.

I drive all the way from Philadelphia to see Dr. Kalkstein in Rehoboth Beach because there is no other psychiatrist anywhere as good as him. He is personable, smart and is the only doctor that ever diagnosed me correctly and gave me the right medications. Brilliant! !!

I see him at the Lewes, De office. He was highly recommended by the Drs. at a mental health inpatient facility. The staff is wonderful. Dr. Kalkstein has given me the best mental health treatment. He does get behind schedule but I just book at 7:10 am. He has fit me the same day when I had an emergency. He understands 12 Step programs and will not give medicine that would interfere with that.

Dr Kalkstein is a kind and caring doctor. He will listen to you without trying to rush you out the door like some doctors do. He is very knowledgeable.

I went to him looking to change my medication because I wanted to see if a different med would do better for me (I had been on the same med for many years). He prescribed something different which caused terrible anxiety and then prescribed something that made me throw up every time I ate. He gave me still something else again and that was only marginally better but still worse than my original med. I felt like he was randomly guessing. Finally I told him I wanted to go back on the original medication and have been fine since. Everything previous posters have said apply to me as well - unconscionably long waiting times, problems getting appointments, charging if you need a refill on short notice because you weren't able to get a sooner appointment! The office staff was just ok but the therapist I saw at his office was great. Not worth it though. And the crowning touch is I hadnt seen him for several months because I had enough refills and I call to make an appointment (the… Wilmington office) and the line is disconnected with no message or forwarding number!

Dont waste your time here. Kalkstein himself is decent enough but its hardly worth it. The administrative support staff and receptionists here have to be the worst in the history of any doctors office. I had read reviews before that I thought to be extreme only to learn that they were completely accurate. Trying to speak with their receptionists is impossible because they constantly jump back and forth between speaking to you, speaking to the other staff, and speaking to someone on the headset. In fact halfway though speaking to one receptionist she walked away and told me to go to the next window where the other receptionist would finish up.Also, good luck trying to call the office. Their number isnt published anywhere, so unless you have a business card handy you wont be able to call. This makes it impossible to reschedule an appointment and consequently theyll charge you an no-show fee on top of this.Bottom line, there are plenty of other doctors in the area of the same caliber that… actually have acceptable support staff.
