Dr. David Elliott Kanter, MD

This comment is not a critique of a physician's medical expertise. Rather, this comment concerns billing practices. At Sinai, my wife asked for services from a physician within our insurance network. We were informed only one was available and they were out-of-network. Since no other physician was available, we received services and were told that since my insurance was comprehensive and mainstream that we would pay the established rate. My insurance company paid 100% of the physician's fees based on the expected and established rate. A physician's billing service did not accept this. When speaking to the medical payments office, they shared that while they understood that my insurance did fully pay the traditional rate, their purpose was to extract the highest possible fee from my insurance provider and that they were willing to spend months in order to wear down my insurance company to accomplish this. Moreover, a physicians' billing office explained that if my insurance company… would not pay the artificially inflated fee, they would make further efforts at my expense. Be warned that some billing practices are not in good faith.

Dr. Kanter is awesome! He was the hospital pediatric specialist at the hospital when our son was born, and he was amazing. Knowledgeable, professional, and took the time to be thorough. Wish he was in private practice so he could be our pediatrician.
