Dr. David Lanzkowsky, MD

I saw Dr. Lanzkowsky for a second time for back pain. On this visit I discussed with him the possibility of using an electrical stimulator to interrupt the pain in my low back. He agreed that a trial of such a device would be prudent, but that if I didn’t get remarkable pain relief, the permanent implantation of a such a device would not be advisable. I had already been to another pain management physician who recommended the same procedure, but would require that I see a cardiac specialist, have a psychological evaluation about my pain, and see two other specialists before undergoing the trial procedure for the electrical stimulator. Dr. Lanzkowsky said that I didn’t need to see any of those four specialists. He also implied that the other physician might be simply requiring visits with four specialists because of some financial benefit to that other pain physician. In the course of my visit, we also discussed the politics of medicine and he stated that he believed medical… treatement is a right, i.e. that the government should pay for medical treatment for everyone. At the conclusion of my consultation with Dr. Lanzkowsky, he sent me to his office staff to discuss making an appointment for this trial procedure. Such a procedure is done in the office and takes about 2.5 hours, I was told. I then inquired about the cost of the procedure. Since I hadn’t met my out-of-pocket expenses on my insurance plan, the cost to me would have been more than $2,500. I also inquired about the cost of the procedure itself if I didn’t use any insurance. As a proactive consumer, I believe that we as patients have a right to know the cost of a medical service, even if insurance is paying part or most of it, before we agree to have that service performed. After all, the procedure I’m considering is done in a medical office, not a hospital or even in a surgery center, and takes less than 3 hours to complete. I therefore reasoned that it wouldn’t be nearly as expensive as other procedures I had undergone, such as injections at multiple sites in my back at a surgery center, which cost (not just my cost, but total cost) at most a few thousand dollars. However, Dr. Lanzkowsky’s office person told me the procedure would be $30,000. I said, “$30,000 for a procedure done in a doctor’s office that doesn’t require full anesthesia (or any, if the patient doesn’t want it) and requires less than 3 hours to complete?” She told me that the equipment used and metal leads that are inserted into one’s spine during the procedure are very expensive. I said to her, Do you think that a single use of such leads and related equipment cost as much as a car? At this point, Dr. Lanzkowsky must have overheard our converstation and came down the hall to me. He confirmed that if I didn’t want to use insurance, the cost would be $30,000. He said in a very arrogant tone, if I don’t like the price, I can shop around. So, here you have a physician who claims that ideally medical treatement should be paid for by the government, implies that another physican might be adding unnecessary costs to the patient in the form of required specialists’ visits, but in the current situation, is quite happy to charge $30,000 to the patient who doesn’t have or doesn’t want to use insurance, for a procedure that takes less than 3 hours and only requires the equipment of a doctor’s office! Now, Dr.Lanzkowsky can charge whatever he wants for his medical services. However to say that he is incredibly arrogant and suffers from gross logical inconsistencies in his beliefs would be an understatement.

Over 8 years of injections, other procedures and medications, and suddenly dropped, with no explanation. Will not be vindictive, but wish an explanation of why would help . Am in a state of panic and shock, needless to say my pain is now through the roof. For all the past treatment I still give him a five star rating.

dr.lanzkowsky has taken care of me for 8yrs now, by far the best pain management dr i have seen,well educated and knowledgeable about my problem,has allways been straight with me about my problem!

Rude doctor

From greeting to Exit, I have been going there for about 5 years, he is helpful, knowledgeable, gives information without a filter. Would not change doctors for any amount of money. Spends time with me if needed by me, staff is also excellent, front desk staff is terrific, avg wait time is about 35 minutes, all are caring for you the patient.

Staff was extremely friendly and I've been to many pain management offices throughout my life and this one by far has the least amount of waiting room time. I was in and out within an hour for my first appointment.

This doctor has the best office staff in Las Vegas. His girls work so hard and really care about their patients. Dr Lanzkowsky is truly a brilliant doctor. I'm back to work full time thanks to him.

I love this office and it's doctors. I have been a patient for 5 years and he has helped me control my pain and get on with my life. Dr Tang and Dr Cirella are the best thing that ever happened to this practice. Dr Lanzkowsky is amazing.

I wish I had been referred to this Dr. Months before. He was able to target my pain and after a rhizotomy I was functioning again! Recommend with 50 stars!
