Dr. David Alan Lootens, MD

After years of pain in my knee and my upper hip-thigh, I found Dr Lootens by looking at pictures and going with my gut. I chose Dr Lootens 2 years ago and that decision has changed my life. Dr Lootens sent me to a St Joseph Mercy Orthopedic specialist and I was diagnosed and I'm being treated thanks to Dr Lootens. I've had a number of visits in his office, 1st in Canton, now in Ypsi. He's friendly, caring, understanding and listens to me. I get a feeling of security with him. He sends me for the right tests, diagnoses me correctly and I believe he cares about me. I've had a number of stomach issues and have seen a number of doctors before I found Dr Lootens, he has changed my life, I'm pain free and IF my pain flares up, I know what I need to do to ease it, thanks to his wonderful ideas to keep me healthy. Dr. Lootens is my 89 year old grandmother's GP. In the past two years she has been seen at least 15 times. Her primary complaints in that time frame were recurring bouts of vommitting and stomach upset as well as an increased shortness of breath. With each appointment she'd come back with a new prescription and in her own words a feeling of being brushed off. In February, 2 days after an appointment with Lootens, we took her to the ER as her breathing was so labored. Lootens had told her she had COPD and prescribed Advair. At the hospital they found her right lung had collapsed and that she had over 3 liters (yes, LITERS) of fluid. She was quickly diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and has had a drain put in her chest to drain the fluid weekly. As she is 89 she elected for no treatment but has continued to work with her oncologist and Lootens for other issues. The most puzzling symptom she has been suffering is vommitting when she eats mostly anything. Lootens has continued to tell… her it is due to her diabetes, prescribed medication, and "brushed her off". After bringing these symptoms to the attention of her oncologist this week he quickly ordered an ultrasound and CT scan and found that cancerous masses are also in her liver, gallbladder and stomach--finally explaining the stomach pain. They are currently trying to diagnose if it is stomach primary cancer as opposed to lung. She first went to Lootens with stomach pain TWO YEARS ago. He failed to recognize a collapsed lung, 3 liters of fluid in the chest cavity and ravenous cancer throughout her body. I would deter anyone from beginning to see Dr. Lootens or even from continue to see him.

After many years of seeing my parents, when they crossed over into elder years, Dr. Lootens seemed to just not care anymore. He was missing syptoms for both my parents. After a nearly fatal problem with my father, he acted as he could have cared less. I learned he does not have rights to be at St. Joseph in Ann Arbor (this from the hospital PA team theselves.) I have since found a new doctor and am shocked what he missed. Please take care of yourself and find another doctor.

Dr. Lootens does not see you for seven minutes and then fire you off to a specialist. He's the best at diagnosis I've ever met. Gives the impression you're the only patient he's seeing today! And certainly the most important. He stays right on top of new meds and therapies too.
