Dr. David Wayne Lyter, MD

What can I say about Dr. Lyter, save that his unprofessionalism in the face of mental health crises can easily lead to patient death and that he is clearly ill-equipped to work with trans populations (particularly transfeminine populations).

Being trans I’ve seen many drs and not been satisfied so thinking I would find a specialist and they would be helpful, Wrong left here my first time so frustrated with how the office and dr made me feel like I wasn’t suppose to be there and was a burden it was a twilight zone beyond horrible rude experience

Dr. Lyter provides excellent care for my internal/general medicine, men's health, LGBT health, and non-HIV chronic health issue concerns. My understanding is that he provides a full range of services for LGBT and non-LGBT patients, including trans health and sexual health including HIV prevention and treatment. He's an excellent, compassionate, thorough physician and I've been grateful to have him as my primary care physician for three years (and counting!). Thank you, Dr. Lyter!

Dr. Lyter is a perfectly pleasant gentleman, and I believe he means well, but after too many instances of having my serious medical needs neglected or ignored by him, however, I am unable to recommend him, or medical services at Metro Wellness. My experience at Metro Wellness lasted less than a year. I found receiving care from this provider to be unreasonably difficult. Dr. Lyter will fight you on just about everything not treatable with an aspirin. Dr. Lyter apparently is more concerned about the DEA and the Board of Medicine than he is about his patient’s serious health care needs. He will not write any prescriptions for controlled substances, so if your current prescription is for something on a schedule, or if you have a problem for which a controlled substance is the treatment, you are out of luck. Dr. Lyter’s staff advised me of this peccadillo, and Lyter did in fact refuse to renew a number of my scrips that were documented and medically necessary. Dr. Lyter also refused to… write me a scrip for Truvada, even though I was eligible for it and in the risk group for which it is available. That’s malpractice. Dr. Lyter also disappeared for an entire month, and made no arrangements for any other doctors to take care of his patients in Tampa. I wound up with a major health issue which landed me in the ER, because I had no doctor to see, and it wound up taking me several months (and significant co-pay costs) to recover. A word about Metro’s charging practices: I am a Medicare beneficiary. Unfortunately, Metro Wellness consistently overcharged me for services. This was not just my assessment, it was Medicare’s. Medicare itself had to step in on three different occasions and either order Metro Wellness to make refunds to me, or issued checks to me for Metro’s overcharges. Metro will consistently demand a copay greater than it is entitled to upon check-in. Even if the money is eventually refunded, this practice turns Metro’s patients into its bank. Metro doesn’t want to have to bill and collect from its patients in the event the copay at the door is insufficient to cover the eventual bill. Metro, in short, would rather it owe you than you owe it. So, the patient becomes a bank. Most medical practices do not engage in this sort of systematic overcharging. Metro states that it will do on-site blood draws for lab work. What Metro fails to inform its patients is that Metro will charge a significant fee for this, whereas there is no fee if the patient goes to Quest Labs to have blood drawn for testing there.

When I had real sick at Holy Cross hospital and he can and seen me everyday for a month straight. I would recommend anytime the best

The "old" Dr Lyter before his extended medical leave never returned! The "new" Dr Lyter post medical leave seems to think patients are a nuisance! Very sad to see such a dramatic downgrade of medical service!

I have been patient of Dr Lyter for 7 years... He is the one the best doctors I have ever had....

Dr. Lyter,I was very dispointed with my appointment today. Roy and I have been patients of yours for some years now. I came in for blood work regarding my blood pressure. I told Angela that I been feeling light headed and feeling like my head was going to explode. She never even took my pressure,which I found very strange. I understand I could not see you at that time. She told me to wright you a note. I still don't know how high my pressure is and will not get results in a few days. I am a little upset.

Dr. Lyter is very professional, caring, and thorough. I see him every 3-4 months, and find him to be very approachable about any issues. I seldom have to wait more than a few minutes in the waiting room. I attribute his expertise and knowledge with saving the life of my partner who had confusing symptoms. But an accurate diagnosis was quickly made and treatment started immediately. Thanks Dr. Lyter. I would whole heartedly recommend this doctor.
