Dr. David Andrew Macon, DO

After my previous primary care doctor stopped accepting my insurance while I was being treated for a deficiency, I started seeing Dr. Macon at a nearby clinic. I explained my deficiency and the treatment I had been receiving, expecting him to order the appropriate tests. However, during my first two visits, he didn't even mention blood work. It took me asking about it during the third visit for him to finally send me for blood tests. When I followed up to ask about my levels, he told me he hadn't ordered the specific test because he assumed my insurance wouldn't cover it. I later learned from my new doctor that this was completely untrue. Throughout my time seeing Dr. Macon—over two years—I had the impression that he wasn’t particularly concerned about my health issues, and I mistakenly trusted his judgment, thinking he knew best and that I didn’t need to worry. Now, I'm finding out that my levels are critically low and that my body is undergoing significant changes. It turns out… that any primary care doctor could have easily prescribed a treatment for my condition, and I wasted years without the proper care. I feel compelled to mention that this clinic is located in a lower-income area, while my prior clinic was in an upper-middle-class neighborhood. The difference in the level of care and attention I received there compared to Dr. Macon is glaring. I can’t help but wonder if there’s an unconscious bias at play that influences his treatment approach.
