Dr. David Albert Martin, MD

I am diagnosed with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Degenerative Disk Disease and OA as well as other conditions like anxiety disorder. I went to Dr Martin the first time and left in tears. Without even seeing my records he left the room saying I need to lose weight. I’m 5’4” and weighed 160. I admit losing weight may help but what he didn’t know was I had zero cartilage in my left knee and little left in my right so even walking was extremely difficult at best. We called about the way I was treated but decided I’d give him another try and thought maybe I was just overly emotional and sensitive.( He also now had my records but had not even looked at them prior to my appointment) Since that 1st visit I’ve had my left knee totally replaced and throughout that and recovery I’ve only gained 3 pounds. But mentioned my weight again several times. He was extremely condescending at both appointments. Luckily my husband was with me today at my second appointment and witnessed it himself. My husband was on… the verge of losing his temper with him and the way he was talking to me and finally told him to leave the room. He doesn’t listen. He interrupts after asking a question and seems to enjoy seeing you starting to get upset. Once you do get upset then he makes you feel more belittled by saying you need to see physiotherapist. No Dr. Martin. I have so much on my plate that I need a dr that might have a tiny bit of compassion. I’m in pain all the time, and don’t ask for pain medication. I do not get restful sleep. I need a dr that will listen to what I’ve been through and come up with a game plan with me. Not make me feel scolded for having all that i do. Not compare what I go through to himself and talk to me as I’m beneath him. Just an awful experience both times. Dr’s like him will give you medical PTSD. First Do No Harm. I can not go back to this dr and advise you not to either. Especially if you’ve been dealing with anxiety and several issues. I have left his office now twice feeling belittled, scolded, anxious and in tears. Why is it so hard to find Drs these days that don’t make you feel worse instead of better.

I was very apprehensive about establishing a new rheumatologist. No need for concern! Dr. Martin greeted me with a welcoming smile and extended hand! I took a detailed summary of my past RA care. We went over it extensively. I left knowing exactly what my plan of care was going to be, and how to begin. He encouraged me to call for any concerns.

Took time to listen and helped me

This was My first visit so I was unfamiliar with the location and state of affairs. I drove 45 minutes to get to my appointment just to be turned away. I only live 20 miles away from the office but unfortunately with the construction in Destin it took me an extra 15 min. Once I got to the location of the office/hospital there was no parking. (People were parking on the curb or grass) By the time I got up to the second floor and found the office I was definitely late due to the unfortunate circumstances but I made it! I was greeted by Dr. Martin's unfriendly staff who scolded me for being late in front of other patients in the waiting area. Then I was told about a 15 minute late policy that I was never aware of in the first place. I get it rules are rules I just wish I knew about this because I would have just turned around and rescheduled when I was still stuck in traffic. I just felt like this was a "Kick me when your down situation". I was there because I am sick and want to get… better. I heard good things about this Doctor but if his staff is this rude and unprofessional then he might be too.

I went to Dr. Martin on a referral from my P.A for answers on some irregular blood work. This is not my first visit to a Rheumatologist for this issue, and I was hoping he would be able to give me some more definitive answers about my tests results. The appointment started with him asking me "why are you here to see me?" This would seem a good starting question, but he would not let me speak to answer his question!! He said that the results meant nothing even though several test showed "positives" which my family doctor was concerned about. He told me those positives were caused by my drinking (NOT A DRINKER!!!) He did not care at all about the test results, he had made his own assumptions about the results even though HE HAD TO GOOGLE one of the tests that came back positive! He read 1 sentence and ignored the rest of the article and said 'yep, see nothing is wrong'!!! REALLY???? He has absolutely no bedside manner at all. When you are concerned about your health, having… someone belittle you is unbelievably unfair. At this point I was getting visibly upset, not only because he wouldn't let me talk, but he continually asked 'why are you here to see me?' When I tried to explain, or ask him a question on the blood work, he just kept repeating himself. Yes, but why did you have this done to begin with??? Why are you here??? Why are you curious??? Why why why?? When I should have been asking the 'WHYS!' I was so upset, I left in the middle of the appointment crying. He said 'okay then' as I left, he was not apologetic at all about upsetting me. Save yourself some time and find another doctor!!!! I immediately went back to my physician and told them what happened. They said "oh.... I am so sorry...was it Dr. Martin?" The reaction was as if they have heard this before!!!!!!! I never write reviews, but I would not recommend him to anyone, especially anyone who has grey areas in their blood work where it takes some research and some further testing.

Dr. Martin is thorough and compassionate in his care. He is quite astute and obviously continues his education in rheumatology. Put me at ease immediately. His staff is efficient and friendly.

I'm certain that there are many more qualified physicians out there who will treat patients as human beings. He must be on the payroll of drug companies. Twice he started me on samples on NSAID's that had already been pulled by the FDA - Bextra & Celebrex. I could go on and on about his prescribing methods, but it is NO GOOD! God help anyone going to him for any type of help with LEGITIMATE RHEUMATIC ILLNESSES, ESPECIALLY TREATED AND SUFFERED SINCE CHILDHOOD by various doctors and clinics! I was put through the shredder with this guy and 4 days before my last appointment I received a letter in the mail, informing me that he was leaving his practice, and although I could continue to be a patient at said practice, no physician at that practice would write any PRESCRIPTIONS for me. I'm no "doctor shopper," "drug addict," never requested a refill early, or "LOST" any of my prescriptions. I've never even had a parking ticket, let alone any legal trouble. I've never failed a drug test! How… is that for courtesy? 28 years a patient, and dumped -apparently like most, if not all of his patients! IRRESPONSIBLE ON ALL LEVELS, FAILURE TO RETAIN PATIENT RECORDS, LIES, LIES, LIES!

Dr. Martin listened to me and took the time to find a correct diagnosis and treatment plan. He didn't ignore any of my concerns.

I was in constant pain till I went to see Dr. David Martin many years ago. I think he is the most compassionate and caring doctor. Never rushes me or looses his patience. Hope he practices for a long time!

This doctor makes House look like a teddy bear.He has the worse bedside manner that I have ever come across. I should know considering I have been a patient for almost 15 years. I didn't have a choice unfortunately. He does not listen to patients and therefore impossible to talk to. When fighting for your life you don't need to fight a doctor as well. Life is hard enough without his God complex. I have come across egotisticall docs before, but he takes the cake. If he doesn't know what the problem is, it does not exist.I would never recommend him to someone unless I hated them. A friend refused to continue to see him years ago because of his mistreatment. Wish she could have warned me. Visit at your own risk.
