In 1909, Dr. David's grandfather, Dr. Hugh McElroy, started his dental practice in Dover and continued there until 1951. Dr. Donald McElroy began the second generation of family dentistry when he joined his father,  Dr. Hugh in 1950, maintaining many smiles until his retirement in 2005.Â
Dr. David graduated from Amherst College in 1968 and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1972. He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1972 - 1974. Upon his discharge from the military, he joined his father, Dr. Donald, thus beginning the third generation of family dentistry.  Dr. David went on to earn a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1984.
