Dr. David Ira Merzel, MD

Dr. Merzel has been with Childrens Hospital Central California since 1988. An active member of Childrens medical staff, he was a member of the Cardiac Anesthesia Team, Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and served in an administrative capacity as Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. As a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco-Fresno, Dr. Merzel has taught on topics including pulmonary hemorrhage, use and selection of inotropes and reducing ventilation associated with pneumonia. Dr. Merzel attended medical school at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed an internship and residency in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Merzel did a fellowship in pediatric critical care at the University of Michigan Hospital. Dr. Merzel received additional specialty medical training by completing a residency in …anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology at Darmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H., and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Childrens Hospital Boston in Massachusetts.
