Fortunately, I did not listen to the first surgeon I encountered and was blessed to have been directed to Dr. Ondrula by the GI doctor that was going through the diagnostic process with me. That preliminary result was rectal cancer and the GI was Dr. Chad Spangler. Once I began with Dr. Ondrula, the prognosis he offered was much more optimistic than what I was originally told. Dr. Ondrula laid out the scenarios in a realistic and understandable manner, and due to his skill and expertise, I got the best possible outcome, namely no more treatment needed after the surgery. I haven’t dealt with many surgeons in the past, but I couldn’t help but think that if I were a surgeon, I would pattern my approach in dealing with patients in the same manner as Dr. Ondrula did with me. He was friendly, thorough, empathetic, and genuinely happy for me when things worked out for the best. Of course, I believe things worked out for me due to the abilities and confidence Dr. Ondrula demonstrated… so clearly. His outstanding reputation was certainly corroborated, in my opinion. I honestly don’t know how I could have been treated any better. I am grateful that Dr. Spangler and Dr. Ondrula were collaborative in handling cases like mine. While I realize that all outcomes can’t be the same as mine, I truly feel that my health was in the best possible hands, Dr. David Ondrula.

I had to have my colon respected which Dr. Ondrula handled for me. I cannot say enough good things about him and his staff. They made a difficult situation very manageable. So far my health has been restored and I am very grateful.

Dr. Ondrula is a phenomenal surgeon and has excellent bedside manners. He listens and is extremely compassionate about your concerns and overall health. He performed a colon reconnect, gallbladder and appendix removal and I had absolutely no issues after surgery and minor discomfort. I now live a pain free life with no diverticulitis flare-ups. He is absolutely the best and would wholeheartedly recommend Dr Ondrula to any of my loved ones!

In one word....AWESOME! He is a remarkable surgeon and caring doctor. For most of us, surgery is a scary thing, but Dr. Ondrula's kindness, caring and expertise goes a long way in reassuring and validating your concerns. If you need surgery, they don't come any better than him!

He not only has the best “bedside” manor of any Doctor I’ve ever dealt with, but he also is a darn good surgeon. And when he said there is not much pain post-op, he was correct. It’s been 10 days since he removed a tumor from my colon, and I am yet to take any of the pain pills he prescribed for me. That doesn’t mean there is “no pain,” but it is minimal. Dr. Ondrula actually gave me more information than my GI doctor did, and coordinated all the radiation and oncology physicians while I was in for my first appointment. Dr. Ondrula is a wonderful physician, with a wonderful bedside manner. If they don't teach this in medical school, they surely should follow Dr. Ondrula's example.

I have been dealing with my health issues for almost 25 years so I've been to a lot of different doctors over those years. Some good, a lot bad. Dr. Ondrula is the absolute best! He has the perfect combination of honesty and empathy. He gives it to you straight and will tell you if your situation is bad but he still does it in a very human way that a lot of doctors unfortunately lose. He gives you time to soak it in and cry if you need to and then encourages you so you feel better about it by making you laugh or telling stories about former patients and how well they are doing and even more so, by just letting you know he's there for you. His nurse Jen is also amazing! If you call her, she calls you back right away. If you need something from her or Dr. Ondrula, she gets it right away. She's also just cool to chat with. They are a dynamic duo who I love having on my care team! I cannot recommend him enough.

There are too many words to describe this doctor!! From his compassionate bedside manner to his unbelievable surgical skills he is truly the best!! He explains and understands everything from the patient perspective and guides you through the whole process with such empathy and then backs it up with his incredible knowledge and experience and abilities!! A true rockstar!!
