Dr. David Martin Panicek, MD

As a radiologist with expertise in imaging of bone and soft tissue tumors, I am an integral part of the Bone Tumor Disease Management Team at MSKCC. The close interaction of orthopedic surgeons, medical oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists is critical for the accurate diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of these rare tumors. My research interests cover a range of topics in oncologic imaging, often with a focus on evaluating the effectiveness of various imaging techniques used in diagnosing and caring for cancer patients. My current focus is on MRI and CT of bone and soft tissue tumors. I was the lead investigator on the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health multi-institutional project that compared CT and MRI in the staging of musculoskeletal neoplasms. My academic appointment is Professor of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College. I have been awarded the Robin C. Watson Award for Excellence in Radiology Teaching by the radiology residents. I was elected a …Fellow of the American College of Radiology in 2002 and am an elected member of the International Skeletal Society. I serve on the editorial boards of Skeletal Radiology and Sarcoma and am the representative for Oncologic Imaging on the Refresher Course Committee of the Radiological Society of North America. In addition, I serve as an oral examiner for the American Board of Radiology. As Director of Educational Programs in Radiology, I select and supervise radiology residents and clinical fellows.
