Dr. David Wayne Polly, MD

May be a good surgeon just not a great diagnostician. After reviewing my MRI and lack of progress in PT, Dr Polly recommended a spinal fusion for my leg pain. I then went to a neurosurgeon for a second opinion. Her team determined my leg pain was due to PAD and the artery to my leg blocked. I was referred for a stent to be inserted. The pain is now gone. I can't imagine had I gone through with his recommendation. This guy seems too eager to do surgery. Do yourself a favor get a second opinion and avoid unnecessary surgery.

Part 2: So the way I saw it, since I was going to need surgery imminently, I thought my best plan of action was to go home, medicate myself through the immense pain I was in, and then fly up to Minneapolis and have surgery number 3 up there. I figured hey, I've done it twice there, they know my back, they know my situation with medication requirements, why would I let some other doctor at a random Dallas hospital perform major reconstructive surgery on me? So that is exactly what I did. He took me in immediately, took one look at my x-rays and immediately began talking about booking surgery for a few days later. Now the third surgery was AMAZING! I think what ended up happening is that for the second one he was so focused on fixing the paralysis issue he wasn't able to give full attention to the structural integrity of my spine. Well this time around, boy did he. My curve went from 88 degrees originally, to now it is just 14 degrees more extreme than it should be. I recovered from… the third surgery INCREDIBLY FAST. By the time the physical therapy lady showed up to help me stand up for the first time post op.. I had already gotten up, had a sh**, a shower, and a shave! So luckily they didn't hold me at the hospital for very long, and I was released about 60hrs after arriving. For the fact that he had to replace several of the 28 4" long titanium screws in my vertebrae, and two of the 3ft long cobalt rods, that is amazing to recover so quickly. When I left the hospital I literally left with a bucket of broken parts they had removed from me and replaced. Now my spine is the best it has ever been, and even through all of that... I was able to card an 83 on the golf course today! This after most doctors told me I would never be able to be very active again. Dr. Polly is capable of frankly some quite incredible work. I was off the meds, and felt fully healed before the incision in my back had healed! Anyways this is my story, and while there have been some setbacks... the reason I am even on this page right now is to put his number in my new phone so I can try to set up a 4th surgery to fix the remaining 14 degrees difference between the angle of my spine and of my hips. I figure wow if I feel this much better now, why not let him fix it the rest of the way like he says he can and see what life could be! Maybe I would finally no longer have to make a conscious effort to roll my shoulders backwards. So honestly I would recommend him heavily if you have spinal issues. It took a little while to get there for me, but eventually he was able to treat me to the point where I no longer require mediation for pain... a feat that only a few years ago I never thought possible. Overall, he was my second rated surgery experience... (the first being having my ulna surgically repaired at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. That whole process was bonkers because they decided to do a nerve block instead of anesthesia. So i was both awake, and conscious for the entire process of them putting an 8" steel bar and 9 screws into my arm, watching intently the entire time because I literally felt NOTHING. They sent me home with a bottle of percocet that I never even filled because I was also sent home with a ball of ropivicaine strapped to my chest and honestly for the first 72-96 hours I wasn't even aware I had an arm. By the time the nerve block had worn off I no longer had any pain, other then when trying to lift objects with that arm but in time even that faded. Super Cool experience! SRY Side Tracked!) Overall Dr Polly was very jovial, polite, and with a few minor setbacks that I discussed the whole process went amazing. I mean i am going back for round 4 so how bad could he be?

after surgery, I was without pain for the first time in over 25 years!! I highly recommend him.

Dr Polly himself, is a fairly good Dr. I have failed SI joint fusions that he is attempting to repair. There are VERY few Drs in the Cities that do fusions, so my choices are slim. His nurse, Lisa, is terrible!! She rarely returns calls and when you do speak with her, she is condescending and extremely rude. She explains it away as being short staffed. She has zero compassion for people and should have retired a decade ago. This does affect the quality of care that you receive from Dr Polly. When it is possible to get into see him, the visits do go well and he answers questions. You are lucky to get any type of follow up. If you have a choice and can see another Dr- go there instead!!! While Dr Polly is a good Dr, his staff have ZERO patient care skills and treat you terribly.

Dr. Polly thinks that he is one of the best doctors but he really isn't. His staff is rude aspecially his nurse, Lisa. She takes forever to call back patients or let's say NEVER calls back patients! Everytime I go in to see him, we have to wait for him for 2 hours and he only spends 10 mintues with me. His excuse for being late is that he is a "renowned doctor". He has quite a big head, wouldn't you say! I have been having back pain for 10 years and he did surgery and my back has become worst. I followed his plan and nothing is better. He just thinks that I'm faking it. I seen someone else for a second opinion and it was that I had screw loose. I couldn't believe it that this Dr. POlly, a world renowned doctor didn't take the time to look at my XRs and CT scans. World renowned doctor, I think not!

I had a back surgery which was done incorrectly. After seeking 3 different surgeon for help Dr. Polly was the only surgeon that agreed to help "fix" my "surgical error". Never once, unlike the other 2 surgeons, did Dr. Polly mention his fear of malpractice and concern to correct someone else's error. Unlike my first surgeon, Dr Polly put me through a series of tests and tried non-surgical approaches prior to operating. The time he has spent with myself and my family answering multiple questions and scenario outcomes have been remarkable if not unheard of in the medical field. We may have to wait longer then some other Dr.'s I have seen, but it is worth the wait. When it seems like the wait is too long, I remind myself he is with another patient with many questions and concerns and never once when he is been consulting myself has he rushed or looked at the clock. For myself and my family that shows the genuine care and concern to make me regain my health and get back to active living. I… would highly recommend Dr. Polly.

Dr. David Polly is the most amazing doctor I have come into contact with! He truly saved me. I am a rare case that had severe back problems since the age of 17. He took the time and figured everything out and took each step to make sure I was helped and as comfortable as possible. Polly took the time to explain every surgery and every step. I had my two year review I have minimal back pain but we are holding off on my fusion of L4 to S1. I have No pain in my SI joints

After 4 surgeries i think we got it!!he is very comforting doc. i would recomend him very highly.

Dr. Polly is the best orthopaedic surgeon, and is the best doctor I have ever seen. He cares about his patients, and if there is something he's unsure about he goes out of his way to help find out.
