Dr. David Jason Powell, MD

David J Powell MD - Emergency Room Dr at Northside Gwinnett Hospital. Made judgement about me based off my med list and my temporary lack of ability to speak up for myself. He is so unprofessional and uncaring. He didn't even have the decency to come in with his diagnosis and see if there were questions. He sent a nurse to pass off the discharge paper work. He read my med list and made some biased uninformed comments and rolled his eyes and walked out. Don't let him continue to do this to more patients.

In Dr. Powell’s defense, clearly it was a rough night - the ER *was* slammed. However, that does not excuse anyone from providing decent care. I am also a health care provider (who’s actually been in the field longer than this physician - with experience in the specialty of which he assumes I am ignorant). I did not tell him I’m a provider as I choose not to affect my care with that knowledge added. Dr. Powell was: - Disinterested in my answers to his questions, - Cutting me off short - not allowing me to answer - Not truly listening - Drawing his own conclusions without hearing me out. - Disgruntled at questions about related specifics. - Arrogant - Lacking Compassion - Gaslighting re: my symptoms (really??) - Most importantly: Minimizing serious conditions by referring to life-threatening diagnoses from before as “no big deal” (opposite of the opinions of specialists who previously diagnosed). One of the conditions was present - concerning esp. since he discharged me… with active symptoms of that condition. My specialist had planned to round on me in the morning - knowing I was headed to the hospital, wanting me there so he could check on me. He was in for a disappointing surprise. I am grateful I woke up today - I was afraid I wouldn’t, considering my symptoms were *that* worrisome. The nurse off all the symptoms to “return to the ER if” was a joke - because here I was in full-blown crisis mode, and I was being discharged… I normally would not write anything, as I am aware that everyone has “a bad night” and I avoid slander to colleagues (I’m also a healthcare provider). However, considering I know I’ll never return to the Northside ER due to being traumatized there, fearing that Dr. Powell could be on duty, makes him dangerous by default. I know my physicians who have privileges at Northside (the ONLY reason I travel that far to an ER) would find that disturbing.

Great experience with Dr Powell! Knowledgeable, compassionate, fast.
