disappointing. I went in for help with a torn rotator cuff and was refused surgery solely because of my BMI. During the appointment I was told that he “didn’t care where I went” because no one else would operate either. The interaction felt dismissive, humiliating, and lacking basic compassion. I was referred to a bariatric clinic, yet there was no meaningful orthopedic follow-up afterward, even though physical therapy recommended continued care. Over the next three years my shoulder pain continued and my injury worsened. I have since learned that I now have a high-grade tear. The doctor spoke extensively about his credentials and expertise, but my experience did not reflect compassionate or comprehensive patient care. Regardless of a patient’s weight, they deserve respect, follow-up, and a treatment plan that does not leave them suffering for years without answers.
