I honestly don’t know how I could ever put into words how grateful I am for my surgeon. I was diagnosed with colon cancer shortly after giving birth to my son, and to say I was terrified is an understatement. I initially went to MSK, where I was given an incredibly scary prognosis and was told things that completely changed the course of what I thought was going to happen. I was told my cancer was stage IV and that surgery was not the right option at that time. I left feeling completely devastated and unsure of what my future would look like, especially with a newborn baby at home. Then I found Dr. Rivadeneira From the very beginning, he treated me like a person, not just a cancer diagnosis. He took the time to look at my case, review everything carefully, and actually listen to my concerns. What meant even more to me was how much he genuinely cared. He even called me personally while he was on vacation to discuss my case. I will never forget that. He ultimately gave me hope when I… desperately needed it and believed that surgery was worth pursuing. He performed my colon resection, and today I am cancer-free and continuing treatment with the goal of putting this chapter behind me for good. I truly believe Dr. Rivadeneira saved my life. As a 34-year-old new mom, I had so much to lose and so much to fight for. My son was born just weeks before I was diagnosed, and being able to come home to him after surgery and continue being his mother is something I will never take for granted. There are doctors who are good at what they do, and then there are doctors who change the entire course of someone’s life. Dr. Rivadeneira is the latter. I will forever be grateful that I found him when I did. Thank you for giving me a chance to be here for my son.

He listens, is very kind and considerate, no long waiting time at the office but takes the time to explain procedure and outcome. Not only did he explain to me the patient but took the time to listen and answer my wife's questions. He really makes you feel like you matter. My experience with Dr. Rivadeneira from the initial pre-surgery visit to my last post-operative visit was very positive. He took my health concerns seriously and spent time reviewing my diagnosis and subsequent surgery carefully and explained everything in detail with me. I had diverticulitis three times over the past year and a half, and after my third episode, I decided to see a surgeon, Dr. David Rivadeneira. He recommended surgery to remove the section of my colon where the diverticulitis was occurring. I had the surgery on June 8th, and I have to admit, I was very, very scared. But today, August 18th, I can honestly say that I feel great! Dr. Rivadeneira was wonderful. His bedside manner was exceptional, and his surgical expertise was equally impressive. My name is Randi Grigio. I am a 67 year old female who had Diverticulitis of the large intestine with perforation and abscess. I went into septic shock and was placed on life support due to multi-organ failure. I spent 4 weeks in ICU, two weeks in a rehab and finally returned home with nursing care for several months.
