Dr. David Joel Rynbrandt, MD

I have had a couple of cancer surgeries with Dr. Rynbrandt in 2009 (after a 2nd opinion) and don't want anyone else. He was highly recommended when I started asking who others had gotten as a surgeon. My husband helped me decide on a surgeon and we were both drawn to his forthright manner. I can get a straight and honest answer from him immediately. I think his straightforward manner may be what others think is rudeness. I for one am an adult and don't need sugar coating, just give me the answer and let me know what I am dealing with and what my options are. Don't beat around the bush or lie to me. We have had to contact Dr. Rynbrandt to get another opinion and feel we were always given the best advice from him. I am still patient of his (2018), even though I have to travel quite a distance. I just feel safer that he will know what to do if he thinks I might have a reoccurrence. He stays current on the new technologies in his field, which can be rare in Northern Michigan at… times. I am allergic to general anesthesia and considered not having my advanced cancer surgery...yes, it is that bad! Dr. Rynbrandt told me what to take for that and I will be forever grateful. Now, 9 years later, the rest of the medical world is finally getting on board with it. He assembled a team of his colleagues; Dr. Justin Call in oncology, Dr. Peter Armstrong in radiology and others for me immediately to come up with the best plan of treatment. I had 4-5 years to live and it is now 9 years and I am still here. Recommendations don't come any higher than that! RR

Dr. Rynbrandt is an adequate surgeon, but his attitude and general rudeness do not make me want to go to him again or recommend him to others. As a physician myself I feel uniquely qualified to comment on the poor quality of my treatment.
