Dr Scharf took the time to listen to me. I had been away from the dentist for a long time and my mouth was a mess. They didn’t judge me or make me feel bad for not keeping up like I knew I should. He put in a couple of implants. It didn’t hurt at all. It feels great to be able to chew my food again.

Have been to Dr Scharf many times and found his prices to continually rise at an outrageous pace. Last month I had to pay over $300 for a cleaning. He charges for every little thing and wants you to pay upfront instead of first going through the insurance company. The billing staff was very loud and abrupt when I was checking out, insisting I pay instead of processing the insurance first. Yes he is good but there are other good Periodontists that don't charge a fortune for their services.

I have been with Dr. Scharf for over 22 years. His work is impeccable :)

I was referred to Dr. Scharf by my general dentist for a periodontal exam. He is a really nice man. His whole staff are extremely nice. I found him to be extremely knowledgable and explained things to me in ways that I understood but did not make me feel like an idiot. However I had to pay for the exam up front and the office would submit billing for me and insurance company mailed me a check. when I met with his treatment coordinator I found his fees for treatment to be exorbitant and the in house financing terms were a joke. 1/2 down and the balance over the next 6 months, could be 8 months max. The third party financing company that he works with had extremely high interest rates and over a 5 year note would have added 33% to the total cost of treatment. I ended up getting a referral to and treating with, another periodontist that gave me the exact same treatment plan for 1/2 the cost and far better financing options. In short: I would have gladly treated with dr scharf had he… been affordable

He refused to treat me until I could pay the $1,000. so for the next 3 months I had to be on antibiotics because there was an ongoing infection. I went back with the money and he only pulled the tooth then put bone grafting in there. I felt it falling out so I called him as he'd asked me to if there were any problems. He was hollering at me 'what are you calling me for'?? I told him the grafting is falling out. Weeks went by when I got the nerve to call the office. He never even finished the procedure so I asked him to send me my money back since he never completed the job. I wouldn't paid him the needed amt at each appointment but he wanted the balance up front and never did what he promised to. He's a greedy, unreliable full of himself kind of person

The attention to detail and clear explanations of my problem and possible scenarios to fix it were welcome. A follow-up visit has already been scheduled to determine if any further work is required and my primary dentist has been consulting with Dr. Scharf during the entire process. Everyone is pleasant, caring and professional in whatever job they are performing. "

You will find Dr. Sharf and his staff to be a partner in helping you maintain a healthy smile. A life long problem with perpetually bleeding gums, gingivitus and tarter build up was brought under control by Dr. Sharf and his staff. My gums have never been healthier. The communication that Dr. Sharf's office provides via email, texts and regular office visits encourages me to do my part in maintaining the habits of good oral health. While the initial treatment (laser surgery on my gums) addressed the underlying issue of large pockets in my gums - the follow-up is what has made the effort worthwhile. Dr. Sharf and his staff care - about you, your health and the world around them. There is no doubt that they deserve to be one of "Long Island's Best".
