Dr. David Andrew Schlagel, MD

Dr. Schlagel was, by far, the best Psychiatrist I've ever seen. Professional, yet a very caring Doctor. I was so sad to see him leave Eau Claire.

This Doctor turned out to be my worst nightmare. He considered himself not only my psychiatrist but my primary care doctor as well. Which he was not, He wants to have his say on all aspects of your health, even those conditions your seeing another doctor for. I having been a patient at Behavior Health for over ten Years and have seen many residents with out incident.My primary Doctor and other Doctors wanted me to have weight loss surgery because I'm a sever Diabetic among just a few of my many health issues. He made, It clear from the beginning that he was against it. Because i had been through Sleep Apena treatment and it didnt work for me I had the cpap and even tried 02 but I could not keep mask on and I tried many so I gave up, Could not afford to waste money on something that doesn't work. Tried to explain this to Doctor but he refused to listen. He continued to bring the subject up every visit. I proceeded with the weight loss steps and when it came time for the phycological… the therapist who i saw talked to the Doctor and he told her about all my health issues and how I refused treatment for the sleep apena and Things I told him in our office visit which I thought were confidential. I was upset and the more I thought about how he broke my trust I decided to call and ask for another Doctor. Which I did. Now I have no Doctor and can not see another Doctor in Behavior Health again. I did nothing wrong just asked for another Doctor So If you disagree with this Doctor who is on a major power trip you end up with out anyone to give you your medicine or treatment. Good Thing I'm not suicidal!!

If you’re not suicidal before you visit him, you sure will be afterwards. This man Is the most judgemental doctor in behavioral/health I’ve ever seen. I’m a depressed male diagnosed with chronic pain and depression. The guy implied that I was there “drug seeking”. He claims that my problems are solely caused by the pain medication I take. Pain medication that I have had at the same dosage and amount for years. Pain medication that I take as prescribed and do not abuse. Not once did I go to a doctor and ask for pain medication; it was prescribed to me because a doctor who took the time to get to know me thought it would improve my quality of life. Dr. Slagel further stated, that he would be reporting me to the state, because of the medication I have been prescribed and implied yet again that I was an “addicted drug seeker”. He made me feel even more depressed than when I walked in! I went home and contemplated if living a life filled with pain and judgement is really one worth living.

I have had him probably 8 years or more and I am sad that he is leaving in July. Mayo clinic will be losing one of the best doctors they could ever have. He has been so compassionate and caring and has always tried to help in anyway he could to make my life a little easier for me. You will never find a doctor who will go the extra mile for you and who cares for you as much as he does. I have seen so many Psychiatrists over the years and I have lost others before, but I can truly say he is the one I will miss and probably never be able to forget. I do not want to change doctors again because I have had to so many times and changing to a new psychiatrist is one of the most difficult you will ever have.

The best doctor I've ever worked with (psychiatrist or other specialty) hands down. Cares, truly wants the best for his patients, and considers a variety of options including but, most importantly, not limited to medications. If someone close to me needed to see a psychiatrist there would be no hesitation in my recommending Dr. Schlagel.

Dr. Schlagel is very caring and helpful. He is truly interested in how you are feeling. He goes above and beyond to be there for you, if you need him. He takes your opinion into consideration and works with you.

Trust him very much. He's a busy guy but always tries to spend enough time with me. If I call him, he calls back.
