Dr. David Shapiro, MD

I attempted to make a new patient appointment and after being on hold for fifteen minutes. When someone finally answered my, call they asked if I was a new patient and I told them yes I am, but I didn't think a 15 minute hold was acceptable just to set an appointment. I was then rudely told that if being on hold was going to be a problem for me, then maybe I should find another Doctor. I'm sure Dr. Shapiro is a wonderful Doctor, but he is certainly not being served well by his office staff. Very poor first impression of the Steward Medical Group.

I highly recommend you find another general practitioner if you meet the following criteria: work past their business hours, and don't have flexibility with your schedule at work, and if you're fortunate enough to have a wife or a husband and not be a single parent. It really sucks that you know I wanted to go to a highly rated and recommended doctor that I started with 3 years ago he did give me a warning in 2017 about missing an appointment and calling the day of it. For the next year-and-a-half only one appointment was ever missed because of that every other one was met. However being a single parent who works 6 days a week and is a teacher and as high job demands sometimes things happen the day of an appointment where you can't call and cancel the two to three days in advance. I'm not Nostradamus I'm not a psychic not my fault kids get into fights parents want to talk to me principals and administrators make meetings out of nowhere and I need to go to those if I would like to… keep my job keep my insurance that pays the doctor that I'm doing the review about. I got a letter sent to me saying that we were unable to establish a sufficient patient and Doctor relationship. I was unaware that I'm supposed to even have a relationship with my doctor. I guess bumping into him at Texas Roadhouse in Indian harbour Beach, talking about the life of a single father, discussing health, wasn't enough. I did the best I could with the life I live. Not every patient is going to be a model patient. Just like every student I have is not going to be a model student, and I have to work with what I have I cannot just simply send a student home or expel them, I don't have that luxury or privilege to say I can no longer serve as a student because I was unable to make a relationship with However when I did the math I had more appointments with him than appointments missed, to me it shows that he saw me more than he didn't see me...... so I guess it was a matter of three appointments or it doesn't matter how many appointments you make if you missed a certain amount you were gone. And I think that really sucks because it shows that a doctor who takes the Hippocratic oath to serve and help people cannot be as flexible and care for the people that are going to him by choice. I know in my profession as a teacher I want to live my life and I have things that I have to do my contract says I only have to work until 3:30 however that there are times that I do have to put the needs of those I serve ahead of my own. I guess caring too much was my problem and missing the appointments. By the way three appointments in three years that's a 1 a year compared to the appointments I did make. and now I have to wait another two months for a PCP or general practitioner to tell me they have room for new patients what am I going to do about my medicine does this guy even care he's the one that told me that I needed to get my heart rate down in my blood pressure down or was I going to have a stroke or heart attack and he knows about my brain tumor removal surgery.... So is he indifferent to his patients current and former and I kind of find it a weird coincidence that a lot of these reviews were in the last year or two. I thought he was very empathetic to me he told me I never had to apologize for bringing my son to my appointment cuz I couldn't find a sitter but I'm amazed how I can get thrown away like a used tampon because I miss one appointment a year without a phone call notice. Like nobody in that office ever did a no-call no-show ever in their entire life.... And his 33 years experience he never had emergencies come up he never had sudden cancellation said he had to make? And I always felt like I was wasting their time or being an inconvenience to them because I had to make appointment on a Friday afternoon the only time I could ever get free time from my job. My apologies....I guess I should have chosen a better job and I guess I should have stayed in a verbal and emotional abusive relationship to have a partner there that can help me go to these appointments that I missed. now I don't know what to do in regards to my medicine I called for an extension I will not be surprised if he's in different and leaves me to fend for myself but he's the one who put me on his medicine based on his professional advice and his 33 years experience so do you just cut somebody off like that and let them fend for themselves. am I supposed to worry about the heart attack I could have from the stress in my life that he hinted about because I can't get my medicine prescribed anymore because he's refusing to see me because of my life? so if anything should happen to me and my son has to stress out at 5 years old? I'll put it like this if you're unemployed and have all the freedom in the world or your we're retired and you don't have a job and you got all the time in the world then you go to his office you'll have the easiest time clearly based on reviews I'm seeing above and mine it's all a matter of convenience and not effort in that office now I am highly disappointed. And all I'm doing is praying I get my medicine for my heart and my stress so that I can be healthy and then I guess I have to find a more flexible and understanding empathetic healthcare provider

Terrible. Domineering and controlling. Won't listen to patient. Felt like I was wasting his tom. Don't bother with this arrogant a@@

What a great, smart, caring person, Dr. Shapiro is. Simply the best ever.

This is really an evaluation of the new owners - Steward Medical Group. I have seen Dr. Shapiro and his PA Trey for more than 20 years. Through pregnancy and occasional but rare instances of illnesses that required medical attention. Initially Dr. Shapiro seemed to really enjoy his job but over the years the structure of Osler and now Steward seemed to have turned this group into a productivity/cost management/revenue producing organization with limited focus on the individual patient. Administratively rarely did I receive call backs and often the office staff was rude and argumentative. Recently the when I kindly and professionally asked why I was getting canceled from their care her answer was (in an elevated voice) "I just answer the phones hear". Just overall really poor customer focus. I am going to miss the longevity of having my records in one place but all signs point to it is time for a change. BTW the reason I was let go was that I missed my last appointment (work… travel) and was late to a previous appt (like patients don't have to wait!?!?!) . Received a form letter with a stamp for a signature - so I am saying goodbye in return and recommending that patients run (don't walk) to a new care group who truly cares about their patient as much as their profit.

waste of time from a former med researcher.

DR Shapiro has been my Dr. for 4 years now, I am changing my M.D. Because of his STAFF.

I have been a patient of Dr Shapiro's for several years and have always found him to be friendly, competent, willing to spend a little more time, professional and thorough. My last visit was for a medical clearance for surgery. He said " I know this isn't considered professional but I'd like to give you a hug. I am so sorry you are going through so much". I am a hugger myself and I did not find it the least bit unprofessional ! He is one of your best providers!

Dr.Shapiro is the most arrogant, stuck up Doctor I have met! He will not let the patient talk. He talks down to you, like your a second class citizen! He thinks he is better then you! I think the 25 years of experience has gone to his head!

I spent nearly one month in the hospital. Dr. Shapiro visited me every day, including weekends and even when he had a cold. He has been my doctor over ten years and he has always been very kind and listens to me. I can feel he really cares about his patient. He is one of the best doctor's I have ever had. I highly recommend him.
