Dr. David Jerald Starkey, MD

Dr Starkey delivered my daughter in 1998. I could tell immediately that something was wrong, but he dismissed my concerns, blaming me for her complications (younger mom, first time mom, paranoid, during pregnancy he suggested I was simply starving myself out of vanity rather than looking at why she wasn't growing, then when she was born and still not growing he suggested I was not feeding her enough). Eventually we went to another doctor who immediately found a massive heart murmur and suspected based on her symptoms and appearance that she had a specific genetic syndrome. Within weeks of that suspicion, her complications began to take hold and our daughter passed away. Days after her funeral, we received a bill from Dr Starkey's office for her final visit where we had been blamed and dismissed yet again. When we informed him she had died and the syndrome they found, his response was along the lines of "but that's too rare!" Almost as if he was disagreeing, again. The only decent thing… they did was remove the bill. Not sure if it's a coincidence that he moved back to Kansas a few months later or if that had always been the plan, but it felt like awfully convenient timing. He obviously didn't give my daughter her illness- but the syndrome she had is not typically fatal and we will never know if earlier intervention could have saved her life, because he was too concerned with blaming a new mom and calling her paranoid. I would hope his responsiveness and listening skills would have improved in the 26 years since our damage was done, but from the looks of some of these other reviews, it seems like he still needs work in that department.

I was recently diagnosed with a condition that needs medical treatment. After waiting almost a week for his staff to check to see if my insurance would cover a particular medicine, I have had to try and call them to find out anything and still can NOT get them to return my calls. I don't need a doctor whose staff makes patients repeatedly have to call them to get answers!

Dr. Starkey has always been accommodating to me and my family. He takes the time to listen to your problems, squeezes us into the schedule with emergencies, and his staff is always friendly and courteous. Don't listen to the negative reviews on here. It was probably written by someone that has never seen Dr. Starkey.

Just out looking to see if Dr Starkey came back to Washington by chance. He was the best doctor. I have found it hard over the years to find a doctor that has been able to stand up to the level of care he gave.

Gave the wrong medication for heart block.

I am very curious as to how he was able to get through medical school. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Kind of frightening when it is deals with life and death situations.

Not up to date on current medical trends or technologies. Misdiagnosis common -- happened with both of my parents. Just find someone else.

Dr Starkey is an Awesome doctor, he is very concerned and caring. plus not bad on the eyes to look at. ;)
