My husband had an appointment with this MD yesterday. My husband was just diagnosed with pulmonary embolism and was told to follow up with pulmonologist. He went too the doctor with severe shortness of breath. He was told that he needs to change his heparin shots to eliquis and come for follow up in 3 months. No tests, no referrals... As a medical professional I do not this kind of care. He was very symptomatic and was sent home. When I contacted the office today, via mychart, someone from the clinic called and advised my husband to go to ED. I would say very reckless care and I will never recommend this doctoe to anyone.

Misjudgments in Pulmonary Care & Urgency – A Cautionary Experience I have deep respect for the medical profession and the many dedicated doctors who strive to heal and help. This review is not to discredit, but to inform, protect, and drive change—so that families can make better decisions, and physicians uphold their duty with accountability, integrity, and compassion. Dr. David Steiger served as the pulmonologist for my loved one, an eldelry in her 70s with ANCAvasculitis. While he was initially attentive, his care became inconsistent over time, and his lack of judgment and urgency during critical moments contributed to preventable outcomes and ultimately to her passing. 1)Lack of Judgment and Urgency During an Emergency When my loved one began coughing blood, supported by clear pictures of the blood-streaked sputum, Dr. Steiger dismissed it as non-life-threatening. He recommended an outpatient chest X-ray rather than immediate emergency care, delaying critical interventions. The… scheduling process and insurance approvals postponed the necessary care, with the earliest appointment over a week away. For 36 hours, we sought his office’s help to expedite care, but at no point were we advised to visit the ER until breathing difficulties arose. These delays compounded the risks and contributed to her passing. While patients should independently assess the need for ER visits, we trusted his judgment—a mistake that proved costly. 2)Teaching Prioritized Over Patient Care During each visit, the doctor spent a significant amount of time teaching students, using my family member’s lab work as an example, while dedicating less than three minutes to directly assessing her condition. His examination consisted of a brief listen to her lungs and a quick check on whether she needed any prescriptions. After researching how other doctors manage similar lung conditions, I found that a more thorough approach typically includes: -Walking tests to assess breathing capacity -Chest X-rays for ongoing monitoring -Tracking symptoms such as coughing and respiratory changes Unfortunately, this level of diligence was lacking in our experience. **Suggestions for Improvement: a)Exercise better judgment in evaluating critical symptoms and their potential risks, particularly for high-risk patients. b) Respond promptly to emergencies and guide patients toward immediate care when necessary. c) Collaborate closely with specialists to ensure holistic treatment plans. d) Maintain consistent engagement and tailor care to address the specific vulnerabilities of elderly patients with complex conditions. Dr. Steiger’s lack of judgment and urgency during critical moments, combined with inconsistent care, contributed to preventable outcomes. Pulmonologists play a crucial role in managing respiratory health for complex cases, and sustained engagement and sound decision-making are essential—qualities that were regrettably missing in this case.

This man has never been anything close to resembling on time, not even for a telehealth appointment, not even when he is a no-show for a telehealth appointment. He will not apologize for wasting your time. He may be very knowledgeable in his field. However, he is utterly lacking in people skills and has a terrible bedside manner. Questions, if answered will be answered with a tone of mild exasperation and a dash of condescension.

Tremendous attention to detail await patients here. This doctor takes the Hippocratic Oath very seriously. I had the most pleasant experience in his practice plus the staff is so helpful you may forget you're in New York.

I went to Dr.Steiger and he misdiagnosed me, and let me leave his office frantic and with no explanation from him. When I got home and realized what he had just told me, I immediately started calling him and he would not get on the telephone. I called several times, as I thought I would have to go to the emergency room. He obviously does not have any idea of what he is doing, nor does he care. I was emailing him. No reply. I kept calling his office, and finally through the office manager he had said he made a mistake. He would not even get on the phone personally. He has NO bedside manner and he is a miserable person, besides being incompetent. He barely acknowledges you or listens to you. Stay away.

Poor attitude; angry man

Dr Steiger might be very knowledgable but he does not explain anything, is frequently rude and impossible to get in touch with. I would find another pulmonologist.

Very sympathetic and understanding.

Dr. Steiger help me diagnose and auto immune disorder that ruined my life for years. He was continuously there for me thru my treatment. He is the best doctor I have ever been to.
