David Eric Tunkel, MD

After going from doctor to doctor and months of hardship with no doctor having a clue about what was wrong with my child, i was blessed to have met Dr. Tunkel. After seeing my child, he took one look in seconds and diagnosed her with a mycoplasma infection. He didnt even need a lab test (although he did one for formality). And after I kept insisting how amazing he was, he was humble about it all. He immediately took care of her with next steps. Its times like this i realize how rare people like Dr Tunkel are. He is a gift to his profession.

Dr. Tunkel is absolutely wonderful!!! My son had awful reoccuring ear infections (at least once a month) which started when he was around 30months old. I followed what his primary suggested for the first 3months and when that wasn't working I asked for a referral to an ENT. I fought our way through THREE different ENT's at three different practices (all by referral from his pediatrician)! After almost 7 months of going back and forth with his pediatrician and these other ENT's I started my own search. I happened to stumble upon Dr. Tunkel's profile through a Google search. His education and career accomplishments is so impressive I called his office immediately. His office staff was extremely sympathetic and patient even though I was babbling like a concerned mother does. They made me feel so comfortable instantly and I knew before we even scheduled an appointment that my son was finally going to receive the level of care he deserved!! They scheduled us within a few weeks which… compared to the other three ENT's was fast! Dr. Tunkel was professional courteous and straight to the point which I absolutely love!! It's so hard to find that in doctors anymore! The day of his 1st appointment he examined my son, told us the problem, how he was going to fix it and we were scheduling surgery to resolve it! The surgery went well my son was comfortable the entire time. I was really nervous about his comfort especially being so young but everyone at the surgery center was very reassuring and helpful! I am so grateful to have found Dr. Tunkel and his team!! My ONLY regret is that I waited as long as I did to find him!! Thank you Dr. Tunkel for everything!

Dr Tunkel was the textbook definition of a perfect Dr. We sought him out as a second opinion on a very scary diagnosis. He came highly recommended from his colleagues. Not only did he disable the prior diagnosis, he expedited the process of removing the trach from our son. From minute one I felt he was fully invested in the best interest of our child and had the immeasurable experience to carry out an awesome plan of care. Bedside demeanor was impressive. Confident, prompt, and never sugar coating. Easy web portal for Instant communication and always available for questions. The Hopkins facility and all the staff that go along with dr Tunkel run like a well oiled machine. (Even surgery times!)

wait a long time to get in seemed less interested and more of a rush. when called for follow up didn't get back to us.

Dr. Tunkel was excellent. After seeing local ENTs in Montgomery County Maryland it was day and night to be seen by someone with such expertise. It takes a while to get an appointment but he is totally worth it. He listens, he cares and has excellent skill and bedside manner

Obviously Dr. Tunkel is above average in his area of expertise. However for a new patient visit, with a very complex set of issues, he did not spend adequate time and frequently cut me off when trying to give information. Came away with some new information, but several issues remain in limbo.

Dr. Tunkel is the best. My son was under his care for a trach for about a year. When I moved from Maryland to California, he personally called me to ask if I needed assistance with finding a doctor out here, he's just awesome!

The best!! Dr. Tunkel removed by sons thyroglossal duct cyst and was wonderful. He answered our questions and left us feeling hopeful. My son had two previous failed surgeries to remove the cyst in his neck with another doctor in another state. Dr. Tunkel was referred to us from a family friend and we are so grateful! All I have to say is if you want the best look no further. He is thorough, smart and personable! Our other doctor left us feeling doomed and hopeless Dr. Tunkel turned the light back on, we'll be forever grateful!

My (almost) 8 year old daughter has had limited hearing in one ear since her ear drum ruptured at 21 months. She want through pediatrician appointments, hearing tests, speech, and so on.... and not one other professional indicated that she had hearing loss in her opposite ear!!! Dr. Tunkel sat down with us (included my daughter in every conversation- to make sure she was comfortable with what was going on)and made a plan with us that not only removed her tonsils, but she has recently had surgery to rebuild her entire eardrum!(Going for more tests soon) The doctore is AMAZING and the entire support staff at his office and at JHU have made this ordeal much less difficult for our daughter!!! I can't praise them enough!
