David A. Uppgaard, DDS
Dr. David Uppgaard has a rich family history in the practice of dentistry and with the University of Minnesota. His father Richard, uncle Robert O. Uppgaard and grandfather Robert L. Uppgaard all graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Dentistry and practiced together in downtown Minneapolis for many years. Dr. Uppgaard has a distant cousin, Alfred Owre, who was Dean of the University of Minnesota College of Dentistry from 1905-1927.
Dr. Uppgaard graduated from St. John’s University in 1981 and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1985. From 1985-1986 he completed a hospital-based general practice residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. This program is well known nationally for its excellent care of patients with special needs.
Upon returning to the Twin Cities Dr. Uppgaard established his practice at its current location and had the pleasure of working alongside his father for several years before he retired. …During this time period he served on the Executive Committee of the Minneapolis District Dental Society and for four years on its Peer Review Committee, including serving as a Vice Chairperson. Currently he is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in the Department of Primary Dental Care.
Dr. Uppgaard is a member of the American Dental Association, Minneapolis District Dental Society, Minnesota Academy of Restorative Dentistry, and Twenty First Century Study Club.
Dr. Uppgaard has a special interest in providing dental care for the poor. For many years he has volunteered his services at the dental clinics of The Union Gospel Mission and Mary Jo Copeland’s Sharing and Caring Hands.
In 2002 he received the Leading With Faith award, presented by The Catholic Spirit, for “Outstanding Catholic Business Leadershipâ€.
Dr. Uppgaard relishes the challenges and joys that come from performing cosmetic and implant dentistry in addition to the other areas of general dentistry.
He and his wife, Marie, reside in New Brighton with their eight children. Dr. Uppgaard is active in his church, exercises regularly and takes pleasure in his woodworking hobby creating Arts and Crafts style furniture.
