Dr. David Yan is a board certified plastic surgeon who routinely seeks out the most complex and challenging cases in the region. Dr. Yan graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 1995 with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He went on to spend a year with the AmeriCorps*VISTA National Service program where he worked with Habitat for Humanity in South Philadelphia. During that time, he helped build affordable housing for families in need. He then attended medical school at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse where he graduated with Honors. Dr. Yan received numerous academic awards, including induction into Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society -- an …honor given only to the top graduating medical students in the country. After medical school, he completed his general surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania -- one of the most highly regarded surgical training programs in the country. During this time, Dr. Yan spent a year as a Research Fellow in the Craniofacial Biology Lab at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The work of this lab was published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals and was presented at regional, national, and international scientific meetings. Following this, he completed his plastic surgical training at Nassau University Medical Center in New York where he trained under the distinguished Long Island Plastic Surgical Group -- the largest and longest continuously running plastic surgical practice in North America.
Dr. Yan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He performs a wide variety of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. His particular clinical interests are in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, complex reconstructive surgery, and body contouring. He is known for his technical ability and honesty, as well as for his bedside manner. Dr. Yan has been awarded the Patient's Choice Award and the Compassionate Physician Award by Vitals.com. He was also nominated for the prestigious Dr. Melville G. Magda Award while in Connecticut. This award is presented annually by the Fairfield County Medical Association and the Rosenthal Family Foundation. This award recognizes a young physician who has shown a notable capacity for patient treatment and care and a special sensitivity to patient-physician relationships.
Dr. Yan served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT and was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at both Quinnipiac University's Frank Netter School of Medicine and for New York Medical College. He moved to Venice, Florida in September 2015 where he and his wife joined the Gulf Coast Medical Group. He currently lives in Venice with his wife and two children.
