October 2, 2017 2640 State Highway 70 Building 5, Suite 101 Manasquan, NJ 08736 Dear Sir, The following letter to you will be forwarded to my attorney and will also be posted on line to warn others. My mother, Connie, who is 77 years old, was a patient of yours for six years. She was treated for depression and has been taking 2 medications. I visited your office once in East Brunswick along with both my parents approximately four years ago. This meeting was recommended by you to discuss my mother’s depression and other issues. My questions and concerns were ignored. I was very disappointed by that visit, which left me questioning your ability. I suggested to my mother that she should consider seeing another doctor. At that time she was already comfortable and felt she would continue with you. On August 21, 2017 I suggested my mother call you for help dealing with the tension she felt lately between her daughter and herself. She received a very… upsetting letter from her that she needed to discuss with you. During the six years my mother never called you needing consulting other than her regular visits. She didn’t call you right away and tried to resolve the problem by herself. Finally after 3 weeks she called. She spoke to your daughter Peggy, who works with you. She was very understanding and comforting to my Mom and said that she would relate the message to you. The call was promptly returned and answered by my father who said my mother was indisposed. You told him that you would call back in between patient visits if you had the time. The message he gave my mother neglected to say that you’d call back “if you had the time”. My mother waited all day for your phone call. At noon the next day she was very upset and called the office again. Peggy was annoyed by this call and got nasty telling my mother that she should have gone to the emergency room if it was an urgent matter. That rude remark shocked my mother. She retorted that she would seek out another psychiatrist and refused an offer for a return call by the doctor. Peggy then hung up on her. When I heard about my mother’s dilemma, I understood why she was frustrated. I then decided to call your office. Peggy spoke to me and related that she understood about the telephone misunderstanding the day before. I wanted to know what had transpired between my mother and herself. I called to talk about this NOT about my mothers therapy. She explained what happened. I asked your daughter Peggy if I could speak with you and she said that you are a very busy man and didn’t know if it was possible to call me back. When I told her that was unacceptable she proceeded to hang up on me. I know that my mother said that she would get a new doctor, but I am sure you hear remarks from your clients in the heat of the moment. She didn’t even realize what she said and thought you would call her back. My mother wanted to make an appointment to see you. I am shocked that a doctor who knows my mother for so many years, would not understand his patient’s reaching out for help. As my mother’s psychiatrist, a doctor who has been taught to understand his patient and know what they are going through. You did not reach out, regardless of what transpired between Peggy my mother or me. She received a letter from you dated September 18, 2017 stating that Mrs. Constance Pearlman is no longer considered your patient. It was very unprofessional to dismiss her so abruptly with no attempt to reach out and make it right. She would have been happy to come in to talk or to speak to you over the phone. There have never been any issues in the past, and to dismiss your patient so easily is disturbing. We are not talking about a broken bone here. I feel you are still her psychiatrist and when your patient reaches out in need, especially someone you have been treating for 6 years a return call is expected. Even to this day I think you owe us all an apology and my mother a phone call apology. The letter you sent my Mother is unacceptable and a joke. I retyped it below. My mother is looking for a new doctor and is not in a good state of mind. She is now worried how she will find a new doctor and fill her prescriptions before they run out. It’s unacceptable that your actions upset my mother and caused her more distress than she already had. She was looking to you for help and you certainly did not deliver. Dear Ms. Pearlman You called my office on September 15,2017 with an urgent call about your troubled emotional state secondary to a rupture in your relationship with your daughter. When I returned your call your husband said you were in the shower although I distinctly heard your voice in the background. We were unable to connect that day but you called back later to inform my secretary you were terminating my treatment with you. Today, September 18, 2017 your son Craig called to request information about your treatment and was informed by my secretary that we do not give out information unless it was specifically requested and agreed to by or patients, which you had not done.
