Be very careful with this Doctor. While I appreciated that he took his time with my case during the appointment.. everything else has been a disaster. Seemed only interested in pushing Botox (which I ended up doing), but did not provide all of the information I should have been given to make an informed decision about my own healthcare. Staff is very condescending. I would honestly suggest looking elsewhere despite the limited options in this field. Patients should be provided with the FULL story in order to make an informed decision about their care. I will not be seeing him again as if I can't trust him and his staff go give me all of the information then I can not trust him to handle my care.

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Donahue. He ended up misdiagnosing me. It's also impossible to get him (or his office) to return your messages. He tells you that he'll follow-up with you but never does. My messages went unreturned for months, despite him promising to get back to me. My sense is that if you have anything other than TOS, he's not your guy. He has trouble thinking outside of the box. It's as if he has been trained only to diagnose and treat TOS. If you have any other problem, he simply appears unable to deal with it.

Dr. Donahue is a fantastic surgeon! I have had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome for 13 years. Dr. Donahue completed successful Bilateral 1st Rib Resection/Anterior Scalenectomy/Removal of Scar Tissue from the Brachial Plexus Surgeries for me. If you live out of town, do not spend money on a hotel in Boston, stay with Hospitality Homes, these people are awesome. If you have a child with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, you can get plane tickets through Miracle Flights for Children, they also provide tickets for adults if they have funds available. The subway system in excellent in Boston, there is even a free bus from the airport to the subway, you do not need to rent a car. Getting medical treatment in Boston is affordable. To get started with Dr. Donahue: 1. Call Massachuttes General Hospital (MGH) and get a "Medical Records Number" assigned to you. 2. Have your medical records sent to MGH with your Medical Records Number indicated to ensure your records get into your… file. 3. Call Dr. Donahue's office to request he look at your file. Often times Thoracic Outlet Syndrome can be treated effectively with botox injections to the anterior scalenes and/or pectoralis minor muscles and physical therapy. If you have TOS, your options for choosing a specialist are very limited. Apparently there are only a few thoracic surgeons in the entire country, who have significant experience with this rare condition. Dr. Dean Donahue is one of them. So, as a TOS patient, where else can you go? Sadly, this â??where else can you go?â?? attitude toward patients seems to be very noticeable when you have to communicate with his office, his nurse coordinator, and even Dr. Donahue himself. Nobody says this phrase, of course, but sometimes you almost hear it in their tone, in the way they respond (or don't bother to respond) to your calls or emails. I hear that Dr. Donahue is a very good surgeon. I certainly hope so, and I also hope to never have a need to find out from actual surgery. So far, injections help with the symptoms, but we all know that at some point they may stop working, and surgery will be the only option left. In the meantime, I guess the only way is to continue to deal with this office,… insist on them paying attention to you and answering your questions, do your own research instead of expecting them to provide you with sufficient information, schedule followup appointments without waiting for their recommendation to do so, try not to be taken aback too much by the passive-aggressive, arrogant, self-important tone you will encounter there from time to time. Because if you suffer from TOS, where else can you go?...... P.S.: By the way, if you are at the beginning of your TOS journey, ask them about physical therapy. PT Department at MassGeneral has expedience with TOS and may be very helpful. For some reason, nobody in Dr. Donahue's office mentioned physical therapy to me, after my first appointment I did some research and asked them for prescription.

Dr Donahue is one of the best you can get .He is so knowledgeable in all he does . He is also very caring and he hears you out. You will be impressed with him . His surgery's the ones that I know about have all been successful.

I'm from out of state, the nurse was kind of mean/short sounding when I did get her on the phone, hurt my feelings, and made me feel like I bothered her when I am in great pain and suffering from TOS the disease they are to study/be specialists for. Trying to figure out how to get there, if things are covered, etc.. Do they care if patients have to pay tons to go see them, do they try and make the transition easier, or want bothered if out of state? I didn't even get written back to. After reading and hearing good things, I'm shocked at my phone/email treatment. Sorry if I bother them, I'm only suffering from TOS.

The office seemed friendly and respectful at first but there was no follow-up care and no diagnosis. It took 6 months for them to reply. eventually after sending in test results and waiting over 2 years they finally told me they sent my reports to a Doctor that wasn't even mine and ridiculed me for not knowing that they did it. The treatment in the office is the same for everyone no matter what the problem is and they discriminated against me because I had an allergy. The Doctor eventually said thing's the office personal told me which was different.. They never ever laid a finger to try to help me once. Very disappointed. They just wanted to do treatments on me which I was allergic too and tried to sell me their book....

Dr. Donahue is an amazing surgeon. He took wonderful care of my daughter, and I am so appreciative of his whole team and the top notch Mass General Hospital. I highly recommend Dr. Donahue and Mass General.

Dr. Donahue provides very good explanation of diagnosis and treatment. He was very attentive to all concerns and efficient with scheduling surgery. For my diagnosis I would not have gone with anyone else.
