Dr. Dean Michael Toriumi, MD

Earlier this year, I had a procedure on my nose performed by Dr. Toriumi to address a deviated septum that had begun affecting my breathing. Everything leading up to the surgery — as well as the care during and after — was extremely professional. I felt completely supported and well cared for throughout the entire process. I was given clear, detailed aftercare instructions, and I couldn’t have felt more confident and safe with the pre- and post-operative care. After healing, my breathing improved significantly, and my nose has felt much better. During the process, I was also given a book Dr. Toriumi wrote about the anti-inflammatory diet. I implemented this diet after surgery, and it has since become a staple in my life. It has completely transformed my daily energy, mood, and overall lifestyle. My plaque psoriasis has nearly disappeared, and I’m able to do more in my day-to-day life. I highly recommend Dr. Toriumi’s diet post-surgery. He has also been incredibly helpful during… follow-up visits, answering any questions I’ve had about the diet. All in all, if you’re considering this surgery, the diet, the book, and Dr. Toriumi himself are—in my opinion—almost as valuable as the procedure itself.

I had very high expectations when I went into see Dr.Toriumi as my nose had been operated on twice already from a plastic surgeon that messed my nose up. I am so happy to say from Dr.Toriumi to the office staff to the acupuncture that helped out tremendously to the oxygen therapy that made my healing extremely quicker to everything and everyone that was involved they EXCEEDED ALL OF MY HIGH EXPECTATIONS and more. I am so grateful beyond measure.

This was my 4 th surgery. So he told me it will not be perfect. Dr. Toriumi did a miracle. I am breathing like never before. Nose looks almost perfect. Year and half later we still keep in touch. I am flying to Chicago to see him next week in person. Also stuff is very pleasant. I highly recommend him for any nose surgery.

I was a reconstruction case and was very bad off from multiple open procedures when I went in. He has no clue on how to do a reconstruction. I paid 60k. He wanted more money to revise me when he left me unemployable and extremely deformed. 100 times worse off than when I went in. There was zero after care ZERO. They let me go home without a nurse, never responded when I asked where I could purchase splints. The cheek flap was so bad and left a horrible scar and worse had a pin cushion deformity that he never bother to inform me about (had to find out from another doctor, as well as no lining which he also never informed me about.)I should have gone to a reconstructionist in the first place and he should have referred me out. He was unremorseful, greedy (he asked for more money after deforming me and his surgical plan was exactly the same). He insulted me by calling it a minor revision when I was completely deformed, lashed out at me when I started crying, refused to discuss what went… wrong. he is by no means the best and is at best moderate and experienced.) He is greedy, overpriced and willing to take advantage of the desperate. Even before I saw the mass deformities that left me with and left me completely unemployable, my nose has no sidewalls, no tip (the tip is blunted with zero projection and looks like a chewed up piece of gum, no upper bridge, and full frontal nostril show. It did not look like a Caucasian nose at all. I am mostly French with English and Algerian thrown in and there is no way my upper bridge and side walls would be eradicated like that. Not to mention, I have no ability whatsoever to breathe through my nose and lost my sense of smell due to his surgery. Yes, I lost a sense because of his outrageous incompetence. His 4k nanofat/stem cell injections did nothing for me They are not allowed to inject real stem cell in the US. The magic stuff is mixed with collagenese which is not legal here. There was a fellow when I started (Dr. Kao?) and he was talking to Pat how the injections are a good way to boost extra income) Boy did she shoot him a look as he was saying this when he was doing liposuction on me) . The 15 hyperbarics also did nothing for me I talked to an expert in hyperbaric medicine, a real doctor and he told me you would need at least 60 back to back to make any real impact on someone who has extremely poor blood flow. The flap after the 15 or so hyperbarics I had was horrible and poor and contracted with a pin cushion deformity that he did nothing to resolve, let alone mention. Here is some advice, if he strikes you as a, taciturn, rude and condescending in the beginning run. If he does not, press him on details and see what happens. Nota Bene: He is having his patients contact me to try to convince me to go back him after he left me deformed and unemployable. He is also trying to bury my reviews with good reviews that go line by line negating everything that happened to me. This is the kind of shady practice they are running there.

I rarely leave Review but just have to make an exception to leave one for Dr Dean Toriumi (The Nose Genius himself) I felt incredibly fortunate and honor to have him operate on my nose and not only do I love the result but I believe his skills and expertise are unparalleled by any other surgeon. As an African American, I was also troubled not only because of those Reviews/Comments out there about him but also concerned that I didn’t see any before and after pictures of an African American patients to see how he did their nose job but guess what, the result of my nose job was excellent. And also based on my experience with Dr Toriumi and his office staff, I’m not sure why he has so many negative reviews online and I respectfully disagree with some of those comments. Some of those comments talked about him not being a talker and an arrogant doctor and that is so far from the truth. Yes, I agree that he is a man of little word but hey who cares as long as he does he great job and hey… did he? ABSOLUTELY. I think he is a just a very quiet and conservative person and what has that got to do with his work? Do you want a surgeon that talk with horrible result or you want a surgeon that talk less and let his work speaks for him? I’m sure a lot of people will choose the latter. He is a Surgeon and not a Therapist and I really don’t care if he doesn’t make eye contact with me as long as he does a good job and which I think should be every patients goal. What is wrong with people? And why are they out to get him? Having met him and his staff, I honestly think some of these people are jealous of his success and they are just out there hiding behind their computer or phone trying to damage his professional career just because of his quiet personality. The good thing is that his results on his patients including myself speaks for him and he is extremely very busy that it takes months to get an appointment to see him. The doctor did a virtual consultation, he was very, very cooperative and answered all the issues that worried me, and gave me a number of solutions. A very respectable person and I am happy with the interview.

The staff was very informative and professional. The office was kept extremely clean, masks were worn at all times, and the atmosphere was very inviting. I’m from St Louis and it was nerve wrecking for a 5 hour drive for a consult. After meeting Dr Toriumi I knew I was in great hands and am confident in my decision to proceed with my surgery. The staff are honest, answered all my questions, and treated me and my husband wonderfully.

A top plastic surgeon was recommended to me for breathing trouble I have had for 20 years. I was told by that plastic surgeon that my nose was severely damaged and nothing could be done. He also told me if anything could be done, Dr Dean Toriumi was the only doctor who may be able to help. I flew to Chicago to see Dr Toriumi and eventually had surgery. I can now breathe again after 20 years.

My nose job went terribly and the nose, so many years later, is wide and looks awful. It looked like someone took a baseball bat and hit me in the face for first 2 years after. Even today I’m told I should still be taping my nose when I bring up how unhappy I am with the result. It does not look like the picture and Toriumis response to that is that he thinks it looks good (not helpful and more upsetting). No acknowledgement of a possible error or undesirable result as long as it’s wide and his patients can breath. Also majority of the staff have been rude and scattered. I share this because I wish someone told me this experience before I got my nose job. If you care about aesthetic, be very very careful.
