Dr. Debra Lynn Amundson, DDS

On my first visit for a cleaning, x rays and exam I was treated well. The receptionist was warm and welcoming, the waiting area was cozy. Everyone was very chatty. I noticed two small spaniels walking around in the lobby and receptionist office. I thought ok that's new. I didn't see the dogs go into any exam rooms so I figured they were trained well. The X-ray took a long time. When I got the copy(not patient friendly process) they were antiquated looking. During the exam she discovered two cavities. One she was sure about but the other she wasn't too sure about. When I came back for the second appt for the cavity filling I discovered that the dogs had free roam of all the exam rooms. While I was reclined all the way back with my mouth open one of the dogs was sniffing in my ear. I even saw that one of the hygienists bent over to pet and fawn over one of the dogs, then she put on gloves and got to work. I like dogs but I don't think they belong in the dentist office, at least… not the exam room. At the end of my cavity work she said I would experience pain for up to six months, and there was pain. It's been about six months and the pain has gone away, so she wasn't lying there. Her hygienist could have been more gentle though. At the end of the second appt she said she wanted to go ahead with the second cavity filling just to be safe. I set up another appt but doubted her judgement since six months prior I had no cavities. I got a second opinion but getting my records sent over there was a hassle. Both Dr. Amundson and the receptionist were rude to me when I asked for my records. The receptionist said that she was going to cancel my appt because if I am getting a second opinion it's because there is a lack of trust. I saw a dentist who's equipment and X-rays were more advanced and there weren't any dogs. Sure enough, there was no second cavity. I'm glad I dodged that bullet on canceling the other appt.

She performed a filling on my tooth and made her assistant tell me multiple times that sensitivity after a filling is normal, which seemed odd. I could feel not pain, but definitely pressure as she was working which I have not experienced before. She kept tell me not to move but I felt not as numbed as normal so it was hard. She also wanted to file down all my front teeth because she said the edges were rough and it would "look so pretty". That's just how my teeth are and I told her I didn't want to file them down because I know many people who have ground their teeth down with age and I didn't want to unnecessarily/prematurely wear my teeth down. She was pushy about it and visibly irritated that I didn't want to take her suggestion. I have never had sensitive teeth before in my life, but after that I had extreme sensitivity to hot and cold in the tooth she did the filling in, as well as some surrounding teeth. The sensitivity has faded with time, but six months later I still don't… like to chew hard foods on that side of my mouth, and a few teeth on that side of my mouth are sensitive to liquids. Definitely going with a big dentist office and a personal recommendation this time.

I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I saw Dr. Amundson for over a year, during which time she filled several cavities for me. I felt pain near the site of one of the fillings, so after a few days I went back in to have her look at it. She did, and said there was nothing wrong; it was probably just pain from holding my jaw open for so long and it would go away soon. So I went with it. 6 months later, the pain had gotten much worse, so at my 6 month checkup I asked her to look at it again. She outright REFUSED, stating she'd already looked at it last time and there was nothing wrong. Needless to say, I was furious that she wouldn't even look at it. So I saw another dentist for a second opinion, who found that there was, in fact, a LOT wrong. I had to get a root canal and crown on one tooth, and the one right next to it has a crack on the root that is the entire width of the root and will need to be extracted. I'm just waiting on getting the funds for an implant since it's… right next to a crown so can't be done the other way. Yeah, very very very unimpressed with the services at Dr. Amundson's clinic. Save yourself some pain and heartache and go ANYWHERE else.

She will insist you need all this dental work until your insurance runs out, or she has soaked you for thousands. She is rude to her staff, will yell at you, literally yell at you if you try to decline her suggestions, stay far far away. She is only it it for the MONEY! She will see you in emergency cases, if you are desperate and have a lot of money to burn, see her.

Favorite dental office I've ever been to.
