Dr. Deborah Ann Brown

Dr brown is great. You have to go a few times to get to know her, but she really cares about her patients. She has helped me battle with tricare to get coverage for things they didn't want to cover, and is great with my kids running around her office. She takes your concerns seriously Md I always feel comfortable talking about private matters with her. I have been going to her for two years and am sad that I'm moving away from such a great doctor

first off, let me explain a few things. my husband is in the military, and, for anyone who knows about the insurance, you can choose either standard or prime (prime is free). on prime you have less choices in doctors and it's a long process to switch your primary care (who has to refer you to any specialist).i was previously on standard, in which you have more freedom. but i found out i was pregnant and with the bills that would add up, i decided to switch to prime. i chose to be established with dr. brown because she was female and the closest to where i live.i had already found an ob while on standard and saw him. when i switched insurance, all they had to do was send out a request form for authorization so i could still see him. i ended up having a miscarriage. it was my third one. so he referred me to a specialist. this was before i could get established with doctor brown.so in the meantime i call her to get established with her. i heard back in maybe a little less than a week. i… didn't think much of it bc i'm a new patient. and on the answering machine she does say that they try to get back with you in 2-3 busniess days.my first appt was fine. i thought she seemed knowledgable. she didn't seem to like that fact that she hadn't referred me to my ob or the specialist i saw, which was a reumatologist. i went for a follow up i beleive a couple weeks later. that appt was fine too. she just seemed quick to whip out the prescription pad.i saw the reumatologist, got some tests done, etc. when i heard back about the results, i didn't feel comfortable with what i was told. so i called both my ob and dr. brown. my ob called me either that day or the next. dr. brown never did. but my ob had made me feel better, so i didn't worry about it.i end up getting pregnant a month later (just last week). i call my ob and find out i need authorization for prenatal care. so bc of my history, i call dr. brown and explain that it needs to happen asap. no call that day. i call the next day (which was a friday). i left her a total of three messages.she called me back that monday and starts telling me stuff about progesterone (which my ob is having me take). i never asked about that. i just wanted authorization. she doesn't have appts available so she tells me to just come in the next day sometime before three.well, the next day, i ended up seeing my ob cuz they do have authorization for everything but prenatal care. so i find out i don't actually need that authorization till a couple weeks later. so i try calling her for probably an hour to see if i can just make an appt. no answer and not even the answering machine. it just kept ringing.so i go on over. at this point, i had decided i wanted to change my primary care. because when you have medical issues like me, you need at least an office you can get ahold of.they take a urine sample. i go in her office and she comes in. she starts going on about these things she's heard about progesterone from research and another ob that it doesn't help, etc. the thing is, that's not the main thing my ob is doing to help with my pregnancy. it's just and extra precaution. anyways, she also tells me she found bacteria in my urine i believe indicating a yeast infection. she starts telling me about this over the counter cream i can use and i certain medication. her words- "i don't see any problem using these while you're pregnant. perfectly safe by me." and having only seen you a couple times, that's supposed to make me feel comfortable? she was also opposing everything that i told her about my ob. so i was beginning to feel even more anxious and upset. she kept making comments suggesting she didn't like that she didn't refer me to him or my reumatologist. i tell her that i'll talk to him about it, and she says, "oh he'll tell you not to take it." so i told her, "i can't be comfortable with this when i have two opposing opinions." i tell her i was gonna also talk to him about maybe a prescription for prenatals. she says, "oh i can do that." then whips out that pad. some other things she says to me- "didn't you call me a couple weeks or a month ago about the reumatologist?" i said that it was over a month ago. her words, "well i've had to start turning people away since i can't handle what i've got." so there's proof that she never even tried calling.she also asks, "you sure you want kids?" (and throws in "cuz i got a 13-year-old you can have." the 13-year-old i've also been told by a friend who saw her also sits in the exam room after she picks him up from school.) and she asks, "have you guys ever considered adoption?" she seemed like she had no hope for my pregnancy. lady, i've had three miscarriages and was devastated. and i tried for this one. i left that appt and sobbed when i got in my car, i was so upset and confused.so i got home and talked to the nurse at my ob's office. you know, the one who specializes in this. and basically she put me at ease.so overall, dr. brown in my experience might be a good doctor for some. but not for me. and i don't usually post reviews like this. my overall view and how i felt in the end- she only wants the bill to send, acts like she cares but really doesn't, doesn't return or even have her staff return calls promptly, she wants to be the one in control, etc. not saying she was necessarily wrong in what she was saying, but it was the way she said it. it's not that easy for me being on this insurance to just go and get a million opinions.anyways, sorry for the length. but i felt detail was necessary.
