Dr. Deborah Lynne Gofreed, MD

Making an appointment was easy. The front desk staff and technician extremely polite. I found Dr. Gofreed to be a good listener. She was thorough with me, she took her time, answered all my questions and I felt completely satisfied with my appointment.

Dr. Godfreed is one of the best doctors I have ever seen - I wish I could use her for primary care! She actually listens to me as a patient and educates me on my options so that I feel confident in my treatment.

Dr. Gofreed has become very dismissive, very certain of her own opinions, no longer willing to listen or consider alternatives to her fixed beliefs. I don't think she was always this way.

Do not even waste your time seeing Dr. Gofreed. She takes very little time to make her assessments, is not thorough, quick to give prescriptions and is not up to date on the latest in sleep medicine, and spoke in a manner where she talked down to you. I felt that as a patient, I had read more about my condition than her--she didn't even know how to advise me on how to use my light visor--the very thing she told me to get!Terrible terrible, there are better, more competent doctors (even my internal doctor, when I mentioned her name, scoffed!)

I am truly mystified by some of the comments here. I have had nothing but good experiences with Dr. Gofreed and her staff. I've been in for one study so far, and have scheduled a further study due to persistent daytime hypersomnolence. I have never had to wait in her office more than a few minutes before seeing her for an appointment, and scheduling the sleep studies has been a breeze. The sleep study staff have been professional, helpful, and quite knowledgable. And the office itself (sleep studies are done on the premises) is very comfortable and clean. In all seriousness, the first time I entered, I thought I had taken a wrong turn and come into a day-spa. Dr. Gofreed is not at all interested in "pushing" any diagnosis or drug. She has been quite frank in discussing her thoughts with me, including the less likely outcomes and possibilities, and such frankness might strike some folks as a little off-putting. For my part, I prefer to know the state of the art with respect to… *all* therapies, including devices, drugs, and surgical alternatives. She has not been shy about sharing with me her thoughts and understanding of each.

Dr. Gofreed is unprofessional, uncaring, and becomes hostile when you advocate for your own health. If you don't have sleep apnea, she is only looking to diagnose you with narcolepsy, probably because she gets a kickback from the drug company for the drug she prescribes. This is evident by the narcolepsy pamphlets all over her office and her willingness to throw a specific drug name around freely. Her technicians were unprofessional and, when you tell her this, she hops skips and jumps right over how you felt and your complaint. She will discuss your issue in front of other patients in her waiting area and is generally unconcerned with how you feel. Skip this for-profit sleep center. She doesn't really care.

I was referred to Dr. Gofreed by my doctor and have had only the very best of experiences.

Dr Gofreed 's practice is a rare gem in the area. She provides a truly integrated clinical and sleep diagnostic center based upon the patient comes first. The lab has the look and feel of a country bed and breakfast. The staff is warm, caring and has been extremely responsive to my needs. I have experienced care at the Virginia Hospital Center, where the physicians are not dedicated Sleep medicine specialists, but large internal medicine practice that only cares about high volume of procedures at the expense of compassionate care.(truly in it for profit only, with the bedside manner to match). As I read the other reviews it seems to me that these are patients who simply would not know good medical care if they fell over it. I highly recommend this practice to my professional associates, members of my family and friends. Dr Gofreed is the Best of the Best in our area.

This was the WORST medical experience of my life. The staff is completely unprofessional, doesn't return phone calls, and will even hang up on you if they don't like the answer they hear. Dr. Godfreed is just as unprofessional. She puts her practice in the hands of her incompetent staff and takes no responsibility for their outrageous behavior. I was prescribed a medicine for narcolepsy and took it for nearly two months before my primary care doctor informed me that the medicine Dr. Godfreed prescribed COMPLETELY cancelled out the effectiveness of my birth control. When I called the office, I was told 'the doctor doesn't speak to patients on the phone' and I was then told that I should find a different birth control... despite the fact that I've been perfectly happy with this birth control for years. The doctor simply didn't want to be bothered with finding me a different medicine. I strongly urge anyone against this doctor... it's for your own HEALTH!

I agree with the previous 2 reviews! I was diagnosed with sleep apnea before, could not tolerate the CPAP and was referred to Dr. Gofreed by my primary care doctor since the sleep tests had been conducted over 3 years ago. I had to undergo 2 sleep studies even though my past paperwork documented my sleep apnea! They conducted the 1st study without a CPAP machine which made no sense and then had me come in for the 2nd study with a CPAP. I had problems getting adjusted to the CPAP machine and Dr. Gofreed acted like it was my fault and would not counsel or help me! She had her assistant tell me that I needed to see a therapist or psychiatrist since I could not get used to the machine. Well, it turns out that 33% of patients do not tolerate CPAP. I also had to come back on return visits to have my sleep mask adjusted. Dr. Gofreed gives you a quick diagnosis and then rushes you out of her office. The technicians are the ones who spend their time showing you how to use the machine. … What I needed is more time being counseled on how to deal with my sleep apnea and how to get adjusted to the machine - which I got when I called the Association for Sleep Apnea which is more helpful than her practice! This is a greedy for-profit sleep center and co-pay factory medical practice. Do yourself a favor and go to a teaching hospital affiliated non-profit sleep center where they actually do care about the welfare of their patients. Dr. Gofreed is a non-caring, greedy,and insulting physician and is the posterchild for why physician rating sights should exist! Mary Jo is really grouchy too and needs to learn "people skills". The physician's oath is "Do No Harm" but it looks like Dr. Gofreed has hurt a lot of her patients psychologically and physically.
