Dr. Deborah Ann Icenogle, MD

Do not take your children to this monster. She bullied me. She was completly condescending. She lacks what it takes to take care of kids. I took my children to her and was dissapointed from visit 1. She is by far the worst pediatrician in all of providence.

I brought my boy in to get a second opinion about my son who has been experiencing diarrhea for 6 months. I brought in lab work and dr visit notes from prior provider. She reviewed the info and then asked what my son ate over the last 24. Hours. I started listing the things - going back from that afternoon. Apple slices, chicken nuggets ( only because we were running errands in town that afternoon) then she immediately says "from mcdonalds ". I said yes and explained. Then listed that he had a fruit smoothly and she replied was this also from mcdonalds.? I said no.... And told her what I put in it. Then throughout the entire appointment she was very condescending. She seemed more concerned that he wears a amber teething necklace 24 hours a day vs what we actually went to see her about. We are supposed to go see her again in 2 weeks, but I think id rather find a new doctor with better reviews. And better social skills. She's very accusatory, and judgmental. She's got a knack… for making you feel like a terrible parent. She also kept looking at her watch like she had somewhere else more important to be. Not a good first impression. Now I can see why her schedule is wide open.

Took my daughter in for what I thought might be a bladder infection. From the second Dr. Icenogle came in the room, she made me feel like she was talking down to me. Despite a previous doctor telling me that my child had a UTI and giving meds, she sounded as though I made that all up when we accessed the lab results and wanted to show me how that was wrong and the previous lab work showed no infection. Then, when describing how I bathe my kid and teach her potty training, I was told basically that everything I do is wrong--kids' soaps are too fragranced, don't let her keep playing in the bath after washing her hair, my kid isn't cleaning herself properly, your kid is stubborn? "Tough, be creative!" (Umm, duh! but did you need to say that??). Everything about this experience was as though she thought I know nothing about caring for my child. It didn't stop there. Before she finished the appointment, she put me on the spot to tell her why I had a look of concern on my face,… perhaps I didn't believe her? I replied, "No, I appreciate your information but I don't appreciate being made to feel that I don't know how to care for my child." I could barely finish the sentence without crying so I was just wanting to leave but she made me feel trapped in the exam room, trying to figure out just how she offended me. All of this, in front of my daughter. Overall, most of the things she said would've been fine if she hadn't said them in a way that was condescending and demeaning. Doctors need to educate parents, not lecture them. But keeping me in an uncomfortable situation after I repeated said I just wanted to go was just crossing the line.
