Dr. Deborah Ann Metzger

I saw her back in 2000. After 8 years of Endometriosis and several surgeries, I was getting nowhere. I contacted Dr. Metzger and she saved my life. I was almost suicidal from pain of endo. I had major surgery with her and work on my bladder and bowel had to be done. She did an amazing job and found 2 hernias. I can't believe she is not doing surgeries anymore. She was the best surgeon I have ever had. I walked out of the hospital with no pain. NONE. First time ever. Flew from PA to see her. She diagnosed me with IC and Vulvodynia. Problem is...she became almost like a cult leader when it came to Lyme. I have CFS and Sjogrens Syndrome. Because I was not getting better, she said I must have Lyme. Everyone who goes to her is diagnosed with Lyme. So, that's why I stopped dealing with her. Amazing surgeon, but when ever any doctor swears that almost every patient they have has Lyme disease....you have to question...seriously? I will always remember her helping me… and treating my endometriosis. I moved to San Francisco for one year to be near her. She helped out my IC, too. But, my immune system...not so much and then she became strange. It was all my fault and why aren't you getting better with my treatments? Because I don't have Lyme disease. I have CFS, Sjogrens and Common Variable Immune Deficiency which means I don't make enough igG due to genetics. I would still recommend her as a surgeon if she still did surgeries. If you want Lyme disease...go to Metzger, because all of her patients have it. So she believes.

my son had been sick for months with what the doctors thought was mono - he couldnt get out of bed. I was scared and Dr Metzger was the first doctor who took us seriously and knew what to do. I am so grateful for all the care she has given us.

I am surprised by some of the prior comments, but my best guess is that these are patients who have traditional medical needs, not people who have searched for answers for many years to their unusual healthcare problems. I found Dr. Deb after facing many years of repeated doctors telling me nothing was wrong with me. While she does not process medical information in her office, payments can still be reimbursed through healthcare providers. The upside to this is that she is not rushing patients through her office quickly. Instead of being placed on a cold medical table and being told to sit in a cold room and wait for the doctor, you sit in a pleasant waiting room, then are personally called for by Dr. Deb to her office. You sit in comfortable wing chairs while she actually listens to your concerns, then you work together to come up with a solution that will work for your lifestyle. I have seen hundreds of doctors over the years because of a couple of unique health situations. She is… the only doctor that has ever taken me into their personal office and offered me a chair to sit down in. Since I began seeing Dr. Deb, my husband was transferred across the country. Because of the improvement in my health, I now travel across the country to see her, or have telephone conferences with her to continue my healthcare. Dr. Deb is definitely not for everyone, but she is exactly what is needed for patients with unusual physical concerns.

Staff is slow responding, can be very frustrating.

This doctor appears to have a lot of knowledge on vulvodynia, but basically all you get is a test for Lyme disease and then a recommendation for VERY involved, tiring and EXPENSIVE allergy tests that require you come back every year for several years in a row. The office staff and the allergist changes too often. The wait times are long. Oh, and Dr. Metzger does NOT contract with any health insurance provider!
