Dr. Deborah Rotenstein, MD

When my son was 14, he had been stuck at 5 foot, 1 inch for 3 years. I took him to 3 different endocrinologists in Pittsburgh and all 3 told me that there was nothing to be done. His blood work was normal, and he was just going to be short (I'm 5'2" and his dad is 5'7"). Seeing Dr. Rotenstein was an experience like no other. The first thing she did was ask my son to take off his shirt. No one had done this. She said that he had too much fat in his chest area. This fat, coupled with low vitamin D, was signalling to his body to stop growing. She put him on a super low carb diet and also gave him a pill to take at night to burn more fat, as well as vitamin D. Within a little over a month, he had lost 25 pounds and had way more energy. Almost immediately, he started to grow. Within 2 years, he had grown to 5'7". Over the next couple years, he grew another inch. He is now 5'8", taller than his dad. I want to add that Dr. Rotenstein was a joy to go see. I would look… forward to the visits. She is so knowledgeable. She thinks like a scientist, and is always citing the latest research. She is also constantly surrounded by young doctors who are trying to learn from her. We are super-lucky to have Dr. Rotenstein here in Pittsburgh. I only wish she also took care of adults!

I took my son for 3 years to an endocrinologist at Children's hospital that told me that my son was normal even though he didn't grow more than 1 inch a year for over 3 years. Once that doctor told me he no longer needed to see an endocrinologist, I went for a second opinion with Dr. Rotenstein. After a very expansive check of his bone age, bloodwork, and a range of other testing, it was determined that he has severe GHD. If it wasn't for her, my son would not be a thriving, healthy, normal teenager. She is a thorough, excellent physician. I'm sad that I wasted years with another physician. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Rotenstein.

We had taken my daughter to a few other doctors before I had heard about Dr. Rotenstein. A friend of mine had raved about her so I decided to give her a try. That was by far the best decision I had made for my daughters health. For once a doctor explained what my childs condition was and what our future may hold, she really took the time to make sure we completely understood everything she was telling us. I'll never forget the sense of relief my husband and I felt after her first appointment, we finally found someone who cares. I recommend her to everyone I know looking for a pediatric endocrinologist.
