He received his undergraduate degree, and later his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, from the University of Minnesota. He then completed a general practice residency at Methodist Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. A published author and esteemed member of the dental community, Dr. Bakkum has given lectures on oral health at the Minnesota School of Dentistry and the University of Minnesota, and is also a member of many leading dental organizations, including the American Dental Association, Wisconsin Dental Association and the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. He has also been a board member and President of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Alumni Society.
Outside the office, Dr. Bakkum is active in his local community, working with charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity as well as performing pre-school screenings for children. …In his spare time, Dr. Bakkum enjoys bicycling, cross-country skiing, camping, flying, participating in community theater and spending time with his wife and two adult children.
