Dr. Delwin Ray Hemingway, DDS

2020. He failed to clean crown excess cement on 3 sides of a tooth which caused a severe, very painful gum infection. He knew the some of the cement was there, but discharged me because my driver had arrived. He left town the next day and I was forced to see his on-call dentist at another practice, who I later learned only removed part of the cement and kept trying to get me to go back to Hemingway - don't think so. It took a third dentist to fix this mess. Because the wrong cement was used, that dentist had to break both crowns to get them off in pieces, then clean up all the excess cement so the gum infection could start to heal. 5 weeks after Dr. Hemingway's treatment both crowns were in the trash and I was out several thousand $, plus weeks of severe pain and multiple visits. Also, the original crowns were way too tall and badly shaped (per 3rd dentist). By day 3 postop I noticed a huge sore inside my cheek on that side. I couldn't properly open or close my mouth without… catching that huge sore. That also took weeks to heal after the 3rd dentist fixed everything. None of this pain, cost and extra treatment would have happened if Dr. Hemingway he had spent a minute checking his work before discharging me. All this is documented in his report and was reported to the state. PLUS, he felt those teeth needed urgent endo evaluation but did not stop the crown replacement procedure, place temp crowns and make the referral. Instead, he designed & manufactured new crowns right then, placed them with super-fast drying permanent cement. 5 weeks after Hemingway's procedure crowns were in the trash and I had to pay for replacements new one. His report said that both crowns would need to be replaced after endo consult. Who was going to pay for that? Not insurance (only allowed one crown per tooth every 5-10 years, depending on the carrier). Bottom line: he cares only about his bank account, not what's best for the patient. He was creating an additional crown procedure for himself at a great cost to me. I fired him and never went back. At the preop visit I was forced to watch a creepy animated video of him prancing around in a white religious robe saying "the oracle has spoken" - don't recall the specific topic. I was also asked by a staff member if I was LDS. Unprofessional.
