Dr. Denise Hernandez

Terrible experience, terrible doctor. Don't recommend.

My regular therapist referred me to Dr. Hernandez because I needed to get on medication for my depression. I was only seeing Dr. Hernandez for medication reasons; I was very happy with my therapist and was seeing that therapist regularly. Dr. Hernandez tried to insert herself between me and my therapist, and I felt it was very inappropriate. She wanted me to see her for counseling as well as medication (you basically have a counseling session when you go in for meds), but I didn't want to do that because I have a great relationship with my current therapist. I'm sure it was about the extra money she'd get, and it disgusted me. I didn't find her helpful re my medication so I found another doctor who would help and who didn't try to cause a rift with my current therapist. I don't trust Dr. Hernandez.

I was so disappointed in Dr. Hernandez. I don't like seeing these other negative reviews about her because I feel bad for other patients, but it does make me feel better that I'm not the only one who had a problem with her. I'm not sure why she's in this field; she didn't seem to care what was going on with me and I found her manner to be authoritarian. Maybe she thinks that intimidating people gives her the power in the relationship, but it just turned me off and I fired her. I see she's now spreading her ill will in Oklahoma now instead of just Colorado. I can't recommend her.

Sorry to see another poster report that Dr. Denise Hernandez lied to them to get rid of them as a patient, but it made me feel better to see I wasn't the only person she's lied to. Misdiagnosed me which caused physical and emotional problems for me. I found out because I went to another psychiatrist and everything is on a more even keel for me now. If I had stayed with Dr. Hernandez who knows what would have happened. Not a good doctor. Also she doesn't seem to care about her patients. We're just insurance money for her.

I didn't mesh with Dr. Denise Hernandez. Her personality is more "judgment" and less "nurturing" which isn't what I was looking for. Also, I asked her whether she was digitally recording our sessions because her notes seemed very exact, and she denied recording. However, I found out later that she was in fact recording them and had lied about it. Why be dishonest? I found someone else and am having a better experience with them.

I saw Dr Denise Hernandez for about 10 years. Up until about 5 min ago I was under the impression she had closed her practice because my last appointment with her was about two years ago after I had my daughter. She told me she was no longer seeing clients and the dose of medication I was on was appropriate and should just go to my PCP. Well this was far from the truth. I had severe post partum depression mixed with my baseline mood disorder and needed to up my dose, which my current doctor who is not even a psychiatrist did for me. I feel at this point that Dr Denise Hernandez is a liar because her practice is clearly still open and decided for whatever reason to drop me as a patient. Which I understand being a nurse and also being currently in NP school, however after 10 years I would have thought a little more from her. Overall while seeing her she did improve my life but I do feel awkward and weird after finding out she never did close her practice. There could possibly be issues… with her being as she had to lie about it.

I'm no longer seeing Dr. Denise Hernandez because she was a huge disappointment in several areas. One, she was late for every single appointment. If I was running late, she would try to shame me for being tardy, just like a little kid. She was even late in the mornings, when I was her first appointment - she never apologized. And that's the essence of Dr. Denise Hernandez - she's all about Denise. Oh, if you miss an appointment because of a family or work emergency, you had better be prepared to pay up because she'll come after your and your insurance. So money is very important to her. I never felt like I could confide in her because she comes off as judgmental and kind of condescending. She's passive aggressive about it so it can be confusing when you're right in the middle of it. Also, and this was weird, she would talk to me about her issues with being able to find a man to date. I didn't care! I wasn't there to talk about her and it was strange. I was intimidated by her and didn't… feel like I could speak up and say anything. Clearly she has some boundary issues which is the last thing you need in a therapist.

I wish I had researched Dr. Denise Hernandez more thoroughly before going to see her. I tried to stick with her for several months but that's all I could stand. She's not the nurturing type so if you're looking for that you're not going to find that with her. My main reason for going to her was for my medication, but she wanted me to schedule more sessions more often to talk about my personal life. She was very interested in my sex life and asked me what I felt were inappropriate questions; that wasn't why I was there but she was very interested in it. Also, she is supposedly working on a book and I wondered if my personal information was going to end up in it. Of course she won't identify me by name so that saves her from a HIPAA violation, but still it made me uncomfortable to know that my information could be publicized without my consent. I found her demeanor to be smug and superior, which wasn't conducive to my being able to open up to her. For these and a few other reasons, I… decided to find a new doctor. I don't recommend Denise Hernandez.

I reschedules an appointment, and they forgot to remove the original appointment. They billed me and sent me to collections.
