Denise Hershey, PHD, FNP-BC, FAANP

Denise Hershey, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, FAANP, PhD is a Nurse Practitioner at MSU Health Care Family Medicine. Hershey received their PhD and MSN degrees from Michigan State University College of Nursing. They also earned their BSN from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Hershey worked as a nurse practitioner in a variety of clinical settings, including Michigan State University and Hayes Green Beach Hospital. They have won several awards, including the Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Michigan State University Undergraduate Research Mentor of The Year Award. They are an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at Michigan State.
Dr. Hershey’s research focuses on self-management of multi-morbidities in older adults, specifically patients with diabetes and cancer. Patients with multiple comorbidities are likely to prioritize one condition over another, increasing their risk for developing complications, having higher symptom burden and poorer …overall quality of life. The long-term goal of Dr. Hershey’s research is to further examine the factors that may impact health related outcomes in adults with diabetes, cancer and other comorbidities, which would lead to the development of intervention research that can enhance and improve the care and outcomes for patients with multi-morbidities
