He then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental Branch in Houston, graduating with honors in 1974. After two years of active duty service with the United States Air Force, he returned to Houston for his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, finishing in 1980. He then returned to Tyler to establish his practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Spence has been recognized for his expertise in pathology, trauma surgery and anesthesiology (his father was one of the first anesthesiologists in Tyler) and has published numerous articles in professional journals including the Journal of Oral andMaxillofacial Surgery, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and other …professional journals. He has lectured both in the United States and abroad.
Dr. Spence is an avid outdoor enthusiast and aviator and has also written articles that have appeared in outdoor and aviation magazines as well as appearing in television and video productions. He and his wife Sabra have raised five children, Kelly, Bryan, Brett, Heath and Wade.
