Dr. Derek Handzo, DO

Never ever waste your time with Dr. HANDZO. Just had the worst experience with this arrogant, dismissive Doctor Who thinks that he is God when he’s been practicing for only maybe 13 years. Couldn’t get a word in edgewise, interrupted me as I had valid questions about a terrible double ear infection that has been plaguing my 82-year-old dad. I attended the appointment to be my dad‘s ears, since he has had complete hearing loss due to this infection. Dr. HANDZO showed ZERO compassion as my dad tried telling him how bad he was feeling. Meanwhile the poor resident in the room was standing by learning this poor behavior. Finally after he dismissed me again, I mentioned to him that I was very disappointed with his very poor bedside manner. NO REPLY! He ignored me, nothing! No apology, no I’m sorry you feel this way how can I make it better? I was getting nowhere with this guy as he continued to ignore me and type away at his computer. I thought who treats a senior citizen this way? Where… is the compassion? Meanwhile my dad is sitting there having no idea what is going on because he can’t hear and Dr. HANDZO is making no attempt to make sure that my dad understands what needs to happen next. Surely this isn’t the first time dealing with a patient suffering hearing loss and discomfort. I then turn to the resident and said I hope that you don’t also pick up this terrible bedside manner learning under this doctor. I told her it’s important to learn compassion and kindness and most of all patience… None of which this very arrogant Dr. HANDZO has any of. Instead of trying to repair this patient experience Dr. HANDZO walked out..... Yes that’s right, he WALKED out and said we’re done. Apparently he didn’t like what I was saying. When I brought this to the attention of the office staff, they kindly put us in immediately with Dr. Rourke. He was amazing, thoroughly explained things, even took the time to speak louder and allowed time for me to write things down so my Dad was in the loop! Now THAT is patient care. Dr. HANDZO could take a few lessons from Dr. Rourke!!!! Something tells me this office staff is spending a lot of time putting out fires left behind from Dr. HANDZOs poor patient care! Hopefully it’s not too late for that young resident to learn the Art of compassion and listening in her medical training!!

I came with real issues and pain in my ear and neck because I was recommended this Doc by my primary care. His nurse comes in and does the FULL exam then Doc comes in and will not touch you but wants to give you a script for a test then to tell you it is not his expertise, then dismiss you? He wanted to flee but I asked him twice to please stay as I had a few questions and he sort of answered them. He did touch me briefly and did not care to ask any questions. I had to tell him what I could but he still wanted to run. The visit was all of 5 minutes? Well, what is it that you do Doc since you are and ENT but then I saw plastic surgery in his bio? Is that all he does? I feel cheated because I was told he was an expert in ENT but he is disinterested in his patients? His staff of 4 was parked in chairs and asked IF I was to be seen again? I had to chase after him and found him, he did not look at me and said "no". I got the test done today and will get my results and see another group. … This appointment was a waste of my time and money.

Dr. Handzo was very arrogant and didn't listen to my medical issue. He prescribed medication I had already been taking that wasn't working for me. He wanted to run tests that did not pertain to my problem. Don't go to this guy!! Horrible doctor!!

This was the second time I had seen Dr. Handzo. He seemed abrupt and dismissive with what I told him and my concerns. I don't need a shiny bedside manner but I at least need to feel like I am being listened to and have someone look at me when they are speaking to me.

Wait times outrageous. Doctor hurt me. Ten different ways to confirm an appointment and still left waiting 45 minutes on the first visit . Second visit left me waiting over 30 minutes in exam room and Not one person acknowledged that I was there. Left without service and the doctor never called to apology or offer a "we will take care of you" appointment for my inconvenience. They are very disrespectful of patient's time.

Dr. Handzo has a horrible bedside manner. He was so rude and uncaring when I took my son in for an ear infection. He said he couldn’t answer questions for me regarding my sons ear infection because he isn’t the ent that we usually see. But he is an ENT and I was asking basic questions about his ear infection and tubes. I assume that the problem is that he is just not very friendly or personal rather than that he doesn’t have the knowledge. In my experience with other group practices, when an associate agrees to see you they treat you as their patient. I would go to urgent care before I would become a patient of Dr. Handzo.
