Dr. Derek Yoshio Kunimoto, MD

I have had a good experience with Dr Kunimoto. He helped me years ago with a torn retina. Having, said that, the office is over crowded and it's hard to find a chair. There are lots of elderly folks in walkers. That's pretty insensitive to them. Souses are in the immediate waiting area to see the doctor playing noisy video games. I would appreciate some changes in office seating and rules about going in the back with their spouses so they don't take up chairs. Also, please silence cell phones.

Looooooooong waiting times, unhealthy waiting room full of hot air a real sespool of pneumonia. No place to sit. Standing room only.

Have been going to Dr. Kunimoto for years to treat a retinal occlusion. Office wait always over 2-3 hours in lobbies. Volume treatmentments. He is nice but the stabbing of the eye at least twice a visit has weakened the eye, always pain within a hour after leaving the office. Suggested relief does not work. Then pain stayed on for days after the injection. He offers no real relief. There are also laser shots. He does not explain the timing of those even when asked. The last follow up with injection found sight during the night in the treated eye reduced to a pinhole accompanied by pain. Have to sign waivers! Not sure if will see through the eye again. No explanation provided. Go to E. D. next?

Dr. Kunimoto is a fine doctor, but I do not recommend his clinic. They schedule numerous people for appointments at the same time. In other words, it's a cattle call. You sit in the main lobby for a good deal of time.Then they move you to an inner lobby with many other people. And you sit for a lengthy time again. It's a herd mentality. Figure on losing at least half a day for an appointment that may last as little as 5 minutes. Also their billing department is incompetent. After I paid off my bill, they harassed me and said I had not paid off my bill. Even after I proved to them with my bank records, they continued to harass me. For the hassle this cold-hearted practice puts you through I strongly recommend you find another ophthalmologit for your eye-care.

I have had a blindspot in the middle of my eye ever since my surgey. Is that normal?

He's been my mom's doctor for a long time. I remember that she went to see him when I'm currently in my senior year in college. When my mom became seriously ill, I need to move to be with her. Throughout the years, I can tell that he's a nice and professional doctor. He got good surgical skills. I also remember that he also gives painless eye injections according to my mom. I remember that no matter how busy he is, he takes time to explain everything that he had done to my mom's eye in the operating room to me. I'm a nurse practicing here in AZ and there are times that I got his patients in my workplace. I keep on telling them what a great doctor he is and sometimes explain things to them.

My father had 4 operations with this guy and was blinded. Eventually went to the other retina practice when his other eye was developed problems. Fortunately this eye is doing great. It is great that Dr. Kunimoto seems nice but I am not sure about his surgical skills.

I have macular degeneration. I was getting shots in my eye from another doctor in Mesa, and he really hurt me. I was reluctant to see anyone, but my internist told me that I could go blind without treatment, so I asked around. I heard only the best things about Dr. Kunimoto. He cares for his patients and he went to Harvard. When I went to the office, his staff was very welcoming. I needed a shot in the eye that day, and Dr. Kunimoto told me that he would not hurt me, and he was right! Now I tell everyone to go to Dr. Kunimoto.
