Dr. Derrick Cho, MD

I posted a negative review of Dr. Cho on Dec. 14, 2021, in response to the following concerns...... My patient experience was truly poor. Given the information obtained prior & post these 2 appts w/Cho by outside counsel w/trusted retired med. pro.(of Jackson Hospital for 44 yrs.) Plethera of medical records & information obtained on my own. And, finally, information obtained w/regard to my insurance carrier. ***In an effort to remain HIPAA Compliant, Dr. Cho did not reply to this complaint via public forum, but hit all the scripted points that are recommended....(ie: apologizing, neutralizing, thanking me, etc.),to reduce the potential threat that bad reviews have to his reputation & practice, over a telephone call he placed to me. MEDICAL ERRORS are the 3rd leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer. ERRORS THAT CAN BE PREVENTED IF NOT FOR QUANTITY OVER QUALITY... RUSHING PATIENTS & FAILING TO LISTEN & COMMUNICATE WELL W/THEM!!!! AS PATIENTS, WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR… ADVOCATING OUR OWN HEALTH & WELLBEING!!!! It's nothing personal. I have since provided Dr.Cho w/sensitive information pertaining to me, in trust. I did this EVEN though his seemingly single-mindedness w/regard to the opioid crisis may be the deciding factor when steering away from opioid prescribing, an over correction to the problem when you regularly see patients in exceptional pain. I did this because patients should provide accurate information to receive appropriate medical treatment. Dr. Cho has referred me to less evasive methods than surgery at this time. Ok....let's see where we land. Let's establish some trust. Prove me wrong. Provide me w/impecable treatment and follow-up care, free of politics or personal views & do so in a very responsible manner & reasonable amount of time. I might be your 10:00, but I am also a person w/a significant medical problem, real fears, extenuating circumstances and a responsibility to myself to RECEIVE THE BEST POSSIBLE MEDICAL TREATMENT AVAILABLE TO ME. Dr. Derrick Cho is the most caring, compassionate doctor that I have ever encountered. He treats you like a member of the family spending the time to explain the problem, the treatment, and your options. I was very relieved to find that he will try alternatives for healing before surgery. He also has a terrific caring staff. I became Dr. Cho’s patient after fainting from a flu test and falling onto the tile floor at an urgent care facility. The fall resulted in my fear that I had broken my neck but an x-ray at the urgent care ruled that out. After seeing my health provider and further tests, it was discovered that I had fractured my T3 but no problem with my neck was detected. I was referred to Dr. Cho who prescribed a back brace that I wore for 6 weeks. The break was not healing on its own so Dr. Cho performed a T3 kyphoplasty, inserting a screw, to correct the problem. With my neck still not able to turn and much pain, Dr. Cho ordered physical therapy for 5 weeks with good results… and I could move my neck. However, after several months, I noticed that it sounded like marbles inside when I turned my neck. I made an appointment with Dr. Cho who discovered that indeed my neck was broken at the C1 C2 vertebrae. He immediately performed surgery to place a screw in my neck to stabalize the neck and possibly encourage the vertebrae to grow back together. After surgery, I wore a neck brace for several months. Four months later, I again felt that something was wrong and made an appointment with Dr. Cho who suggested after more tests that I should have another surgery to strengthen my neck by taking a chip from my hip bone to use to fill in the space between the two vertebrae, insert two more screws and wire this all together. This was a long ordeal over 14 months but I never once doubted that Dr. Cho would correct the problem and I will always be thankful that Dr. Cho was my doctor.

HE IS AN EXCELLENT DR! He built my husbands L4&5 4 years ago in Mobile and last year we drove from Mobile to Huntsville for him to do his L3. My husband feels like a new person.

I had a herniated disc in my lower back and was in so much pain. After a no-pressure consultation with Dr. Derrick Cho, I decided to move forward with surgery to have the herniated part of the disc shaved off. Dr. Cho was very professional , informative and I am now pain-free. I would highly recommend him.

Dr Cho and his Nurse, Meredith are caring and professional. I'm so grateful for having used him for my surgical procedure. His services to me allowed me to return to normal life once again. I could never say enough wonderful things about him and his nurse!

August 7th, 2016 I was in a single vehicle MVA that left me with a shattered C5 vertebrae as well as fractured C4 & C6, as well as a severe spinal cord lesion and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Cho performed my emergency surgery by placing plates, screws, and a cage in my neck. I left Huntsville Hospital two and a half weeks later, and finished my inpatient rehab at the Shepherd Center two weeks after that. I walked out. That in itself speaks to Dr. Cho's prowess. I have had a very miraculous recovery, and I believe that after God, I look no further than Dr. Cho for his stellar skills when I give thanks. I returned to my job as an ICU nurse not more than 2 months after my surgery, and I could not have even walked onto the unit, or breathed without the assistance of a ventilator if it weren't for Dr. Cho. I am eternally greatful.

Dr. Cho did lower back surgery in May 2015 after months of pain and living off of pain pills . I am off of pain pills and have very little discomfort. I am thankful for all the help he and his staff provided. I would highly recommend Dr. Cho to anyone in need of surgery.

Was in a lot of pain, after my surgery no more pain.....so glad I had the surgery....very please.

Dr. Derrick H. Cho was my surgeon. Before my first appointment I had already did research on Dr. Cho, and all info was good! I had already had 4 back surgeries in the past and have a stack of MRI's, CAT Scans, and X-Rays. I am no doctor but after awhile you learn a little on reading these things. Before I saw Doctor Cho I saw the MRI and could see obvious damage to my cervical spine. When he came in the room with me he wasted no time in coming straight to the point tha I needed repairing. A few weeks later I had the surgery. When I awoke in recovery I was alert and knew then that things had changed for the better. I had a little pain, but the strength had returned to my hands. I was out of the hospital the next day ( Saturday), Sunday, I was picking cucumbers, Monday I walked a mile and have adding mileage since. Yesterday 3 weeks after surgery I am up to 5 miles walking. I feel better than I have in a long time. I feel strong and fiesty. I am behaving myself though as best I can. I… have had to take very little in the way of pain meds, maybe 6 tabs in 3 weeks. I would take neck surgery over back surgery any day of the week. I am very pleased with Dr.Cho and if I ever need surgery of this type again Dr.Cho is my man. I will refuse anyone else unless Dr.Cho recommends it. I trust him!

I'm writing this review as a former patient of Dr. Cho's in Denver, CO. I was fortunate enough to be treated by Dr. Cho when he was a surgeon at Colorado Brain & Spine. He is not only a skilled surgeon, but a very wonderful person. I believe everyone who has contact with Dr. Cho is impressed by the kind way he treats patients and the staff who work with him. I had a deteriorating disc issue and Dr. Cho performed a surgical procedure that solved my problem. The procedure did not require an extended recovery period and I did not need any narcotic pain medicine. As a result of Dr. Cho's surgical skill, I was able to resume an active lifestyle that-at 67 years of age- includes walking, hiking and riding a bicycle.
