Dr. Detlef Wencker, MD

This guy knows what he is doing. I understand how some others might think his speech is abrupt at times but that is just a very small cultural thing. He is actually incredibly thoughtful and sensitive to a patient's needs. He also thinks through ALL options and has a spirit of not giving up on a patient, something I find quite refreshing from the typical physician who follows some standard protocol on a paper and then gives up when it doesn't produce results. Dr. Wencker is NOT like that and I am forever greatful for that. If you having a fighting spirit, want to explore all of your options, and are willing to put in a little hard work for your health, then this doctor is for you!

His bedside manner is not that great but who cares if you are alive to tell about it!

Dr. Wencker may be known as an excellent physician, but he has a terrible beside manner that I cannot give him a rating (DISREGARD the star- it's required). Imagine being in the hospital and the attending doctor does not visit you after you and he have a disagreement. Go figure. After our disagreement, Dr Wencker never return to my room to discuss my care. I relied on info from the ICU nurses and residences at Hartford Hospital. I have to go with my gut feelings and say my healthcare was about the almighty dollar.

After many months of painful lung taps to eliminate fluid around that area, we learned that Dr. Wencker administers infusions which are painless and very comfortable. He is the only Doctor in Connecticut to do this procedure for congestive heart failure patients. Dr. Wencker and his staff are very mindful of their patients needs and individual conditions. Had I been aware of this prior, I would not have spent five weeks in a hospital with 6 taps and 3 surgeries. Dr. Wencker is well above his peers in treating congestive heart failure patients with non-invasive procedures. This procedure will contribute to make Hartford Hospital become one of the leading heart treatment centers in the country. Excellent !
