Dr. Devak Girish Desai, MD

I was treated by Dr. Devak Desai. During my time of treatment, Dr Desai prescribed the medication Bactrim to me. It was during this time, I experienced a rapid decline in my health, while under the care of Dr. Desai. I was hospitalized 3 times for a total of 4 weeks within 4 months. During the last hospital visit of a total (with a two week hospital stay), it was determined that Dr. Desai should not have prescribed me the medication, Bactrim because it contained sulpha and I am allergic to sulpha! As a result of Dr. Desai practicing medicine on me, I lost a total of over 100 pounds within a 4-month time period – a rapid decline in weight loss. I lost complete function of my kidneys whereas my Creatinine level reached 17. It was during the last hospital stay I had to undergo dialysis because my kidneys were not functioning. I remained in a state of nausea and consistently regurgitated even by drinking water, not to mention I could not eat. For a period of almost 2 weeks, I… could not even generate urine. The night I was taken by ambulance to the hospital, I was told that if I had not come that night, I would not have lived through the morning. I ALMOST DIED! I experienced near death, because Dr. Desai prescribed Bactrim to me and watched as I rapidly declined while in his medical care. He failed to take any action on my condition, did not suggest taking me off the medication, even when I inquired about it, he maintained, I should continue this medication, Bactrim. As I have read and researched, competent medical doctors are aware of the side effects and danger of prescribing this medication. This medication is a combination of two antibiotics: sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. It is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections such as middle ear, urine, respiratory, and intestinal infections – none of which I had!!! It is also used to prevent and treat a certain type of pneumonia – which I did not have. This medication treats only certain types of infections – which I did not have. It will not work for viral infections such as flu – which is why I originally went to the doctor – the flu!!! I experienced nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle weakness, kidney problems (a decrease in the amount of urine), tingling of feet, and a significant loss of appetite – which are all major side effects of this medication and medications containing Sulpha. Upon the appointments that I had with Dr. Desai, I advised him of how I was feeling, what I was experiencing and how I was physically deteriorating. Dr. Desai personally and visibly witnessed my decreased weight loss and decline in health as he saw me each time in his physician’s office. As I inquired to Dr. Desai about my problems/symptoms, he offered no explanation and his resolution was to continue on prescribing me prescribe me more Bactrim which contained sulpha of which I am allergic and people with my health condition are commonly known to be allergic. Total Incompetence!!

Dr. Desai is one of the best doctors I've ever had. He's smart, really listens to me, patient, always pleasant and takes a lot of time with me during appointments (more than any other doctor I've ever had, most docs can't wait to run for the door). His nurses are equally pleasant, sharp, and caring. What a great doctor and staff! Wish all doctors were like him and his staff. I highly recommend him.
