Dr. Diane Mary Cunningham, MD

I have had pretty bad pelvic pain for the past few years. I have been going to appointments on and off for a few years here and I have seen the PA multiple times and have only seen Dr Cunningham once. The one time I did I explained my history and concerns and what I have done over those two years. She was very dismissive. She said “this is more of an annoyance than serious”. I have never felt more overwhelmed leaving a doctors office. When asking questions she pretty much rushed to leave the room. The visit probably lasted 5 minutes at the most.

Would NOT recommend seeing dr. Cunningham. Very dismissive. Rushed the appointment and didn't answer any of my questions.

Been going to Dr Cunningham for many years, she is kind and professional, caring and plan on being her patient for the foreseeable future. Excellent doctor.

Always attentive and responsive

Very rushed when seeing patients. Had her as a doctor for many years. When a serious situation occurred with my health she was truly negligent. After surgery and following her directions to recoup my life was seriously put in jeopardy following her direct advice. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.

I feel like a number in this office, it seems once baby making is over, the time is wasted with me which should be spent with the next obstetrics patient. I wish medical community would split up OB and GYN. Doctors are much more interested iin bringing a new baby than dealing with an old (50+) lady!

did not like her

My mother picked Dr. Cunningham to be my first OB/GYN when, as a teenager, I objected to the idea of seeing her own male gynecologist. But I only was referred to her because my family is acquainted with hers, and I cannot say it has earned me any special treatment, let alone any decent treatment at all. Now, at nearly 23, I am overdue for my annual appointments because I am so sick of dealing with her practice entirely. It gives me a headache to set up an appointment, urgent or not, because the staff is so unhelpful and ignorant, and because there is so very little availability. And the fact that there are three office locations only further confounds the issue of scheduling, to the point where I have preferred to go to Planned Parenthood for my birth control needs. If I do ever manage to get an appointment, usually months in advance, and I remember to show up (the office doesn't do confirmation calls or emails), my time spent with my actual gynecologist is a fraction of the time… spent in the waiting room. Dr. Cunningham is not unpleasant, asking about my family and other niceties, but I get the feeling she creates this dialogue only to distract from the awkwardness of an examination. But then I always expect her to allot some time to discuss my health, ask about medical issues or give me the opportunity for questions...that never happens. She is altogether too brief, uninformative, and distant; I always leave feeling incomplete and bewildered. She does not explain anything unless I ask many questions, and even that does not garner an adequate response. Moreover, as I have learned to try to ask more educated questions in hopes of gaining more feedback, Dr. Cunningham has more than once cut me off or nearly done so, by swiftly bidding me good day and exiting the room, without more than a split second of inquiring as to any further concerns I might have. Basically, I am so dissatisfied that, instead of trying to get another appointment with her, I have taken my reproductive health into my own hands, until I can find another practice altogether. I have been off my birth control for three months, because I didn't have a period for the six months after she had a nurse practitioner switch my prescription and didn't follow up on the results. I received no information about the results of a colposcopy I waited nine months to have done, so I am anxious as to how my next pap smear will look. And I have delayed my yearly examination indefinitely, because I refuse to go through the hassle of getting an appointment that is guaranteed to be completely unsatisfactory. A woman should be able to leave her visit to an OB/GYN feeling confident that her doctor cares about her reproductive health, feeling that she can trust in the quality of service she is receiving, and feeling as knowledgeable as possible about the workings of her female body. With Dr. Cunningham and RGOA, I feel none of the above.

I have been a patient of Dr C for 18 years. I first liked that she is succinct. Her communications are very limited unless prompted for additional information. If there are no problems, succinct is probably fine but could be improved by being more friendly. When there are problems, succinct is not acceptable. Things need to be explained, and treatment options discussed. She needs to remember that her patients deserve good communication. Her written communications are somewhat curt and sterile. She will spend more time if asked for explanations, but doesn't seem to recognize when it is appropriate to offer information to help inform/educate the patient. I have had to work far too hard to get her to communicate information that should have been forthcoming. I have had experiences with 2 other OB/GYN doctors who had very good communications and bedside manner. One of them handled my prenatal and delivery and he was excellent in every respect and had an excellent staff. I… cannot say that I would like to go through that with Dr. C, so at this point she is barely okay. Finding another doc is on my agenda.

She is very rude. Doesn't explain what she is checking for at visits. Literally makes me feel as more of a bother than a patient. In and out in less than 5 minutes. Seems exasperated and rushed every time. Doesn't seem to take my pregnancy concerns seriously. Doesn't explain anything. Doesn't even act friendly. Switching doctors, Noone should be treated like that at a prenatal visit!
