Dr. Diedrich Holtkamp, MD

It is comforting to know that I don't have to travel all the way into Manhattan to be treated by a knowledgable and highley regarded Surgeon. Dr. Holtkamp is based in my neighborhood of Bay Ridge for many years and has an excellent reputation. I was reffered to him by my best friend's mother after I found a lump in my breast. It was benign, but he was so well versed and understanding. That I knew I was in good hands. Thank God everything was ok. But, I felt comfortable that he knew what he was saying and doing. In times like this, you need someone with experience. I am am so thankful for the referral.

Dr. Holtkamp performed an emergency surgery on me a few years ago. I had never met or heard of Dr. Holtkamp until that day. My primary care physician referred the hospital to him when he was contacted regarding my condition. At the time I was an unemployed recent college grad who was covered by emergency medicaid. As it turns out, Dr. Holtkamp does not accept that form of insurance, which of course did not come up in the 2 minute introduction we shared (an introduction which occurred in the operating room). It was truly the shock of my life when I received a several thousand dollar bill in the mail, and when I contacted his office staff I was treated very, very poorly. The staff offered no sympathy, and instead provided a profanity laden lecture informing me of how much of a dead beat I was. Bear in mind, I received the bill 2 weeks after the operation, and it wasn't until that time that I was even made aware that Dr. Holtkamp didn't take the type of insurance I was covered by. Long… story short, Dr. Holtkamp and his staff did not even try to work with me, despite the fact that I, as a patient who had no prior dealings with Dr. Holtkamp and had not even chosen him to perform the surgery, had no job, no insurance, and no means of paying back the debt. Within one month the debt was sent to collections, and now, years later, I'm still trying to rebuild my credit. You'd think that medical professional with 30+ years of experience would have enough money and would be willing to work with someone who was struggling to make ends meet.
