Dr. Dietrich Werner Leopold Schultze, MD

I was admitted to the hospital to have a port placed to make chemotherapy easier after my recent diagnosis of breast cancer. I was assigned Dr Schultze as the one that would be performing the procedure. The 3rd thing out of his mouth after introducing himself and confirming the procedure was to go on and on about the fact that he does not like the type of port my doctor ordered (one that goes in the arm). He went on to say the complications of this type of port are high and he doesn't know why they are ever ordered. Not very reassuring, as at this point, I've no say and that is what my doctor recommended. He really should have kept this to himself. The procedure took twice as long as it was supposed to, and, since I was awake the whole time, seemed to be giving him obvious problems as he sighed and grunted in frustration several times. Once the topical numbing wore off, I was in excruciating pain. Since this was not addressed in any post care info, I figured it was because he… seemed to have such a difficult time. The port hurt very badly for several days. It also did not look right from day one. I work for surgeons and they commented they did not like the red, inflamed way it looked as it healed. Two weeks after it was placed, the port got very red and sore and eventually began oozing pus. It had to be removed and the infection had made it's way into my blood, so I was in the hospital for 5 days. The infection also caused a blood clot, so now I am on blood thinners for 6 months. This was a terrible experience, and I fully believe these complications arose as a result of Dr Schultze's negligence.
